This special edition of Et Alors? Magazine is exceptionally written in Dutch instead of English. In 2014, the city of Ghent, Belgium signed the Rainbow-declaration. A manifest in which everyone engaged themselves towards an open and tolerant LGBT policy. The city council, The police force, yes, even the local soccer team went aboard, campaigning for gay tolerance in sports. Since Fleur was born and raised in Ghent, she didn’t give it a second thought when the city asked her and Julian to make an Et Alors? Magazine special about Ghent. They interviewed council member Resul Tapmaz, who’s in charge of equal opportunities, and talked about the necessity of a Rainbow-declaration. They researched the benefits of a ‘pink house’ and an organization such as Transgender Info. But since Et Alors? Magazine is above all an art project, Fleur & Julian searched for the gender, feminist, and queer artists that inhabit the city. 5.000 copies of Et Alors? Magazine – The Ghent edition were handed out for free during the summer of 2014, thereby spreading diversity in a city who’s council chooses to work towards a positive change.

Soms strak in het pak maar soms ook gekleed in<br />
enkel een hoed, een strik en knalrode hotpants,<br />
zet Saint-Marteau een personage neer dat het<br />
midden houdt tussen ‘chanteur de rock’ en<br />
‘chanteur fantaisiste’. Deze Gentse, franstalige<br />
zanger en componist maakt sinds enkele jaren<br />
furore met zijn unieke mengeling van humor,<br />
uitbundige shows, vlijmscherpe teksten en<br />
stevige muziek. Wij halen de flapper uit de kast<br />
en vragen hem de weinige kleren van het lijf.<br />
Wie is Saint-Marteau ?<br />
Dat ben ik! Enfin, misschien niet zozeer hoe ik<br />
hier nu zit, maar wel telkens ik ergens een voet op<br />
het podium zet. Ik ervaar dat iedere keer weer als<br />
een kleine metamorfose.<br />
Saint-Marteau is een alias. Waarom de<br />
geheimzinnigheid?<br />
Vanaf het moment dat je besluit op te treden<br />
voor een publiek, verkoop je een produkt. Bij een<br />
produkt hoort een passende naam, en niet persé<br />
de naam die je bij je geboorte mee kreeg. Verder<br />
hou ik er niet zo van om mensen een blik achter de<br />
schermen te geven. Ook al word je tegenwoordig<br />
verondersteld dat constant te doen. Ik presenteer<br />
liever het afgewerkte resultaat.<br />
Je komt uit een Gentse kunstenaarsfamilie. Lag<br />
daar reeds je basis om muzikant te worden?<br />
Ik heb zeer getalenteerde ouders. Dat ik een<br />
artistieke richting zou kiezen lag voor de hand.<br />
Het had ook schilderkunst, fotografie of film<br />
kunnen zijn. Aanvankelijk ben ik zonder veel<br />
moeite de muziek ingerold. Pas toen ik mij<br />
bewust werd dat ik de richting van het chanson<br />
wou uitgaan, ben ik keihard beginnen werken.<br />
Je zingt en schrijft in het frans. Vanwaar de<br />
fascinatie voor de taal en het genre?<br />
Mijn vroegste muzikale herinneringen zijn<br />
franstalig. Als kleuter werd ik naar het schijnt<br />
helemaal wild wanneer Annie Cordy op TV kwam.<br />
