MARITIME MUSEUMS IN
VICTORIA
Seeing the rich maritime history
of Australia, then you find a lot of
museums which wholly or partly
have a maritime character.
The Maritime Museum of Victoria
Inc. is the associated body of
about 14 museums and vessels .
These include a couple of original
well maintained ships e.g.
POLLY WOODSIDE, HMAS
CASTLEMAINE, tugboat WATTLE,
ALMA DOEPEL and some paddle
steamers.
The ENTERPRIZE can be listed
here too although this “tall ship”
is actually a replica. Day trips in
Port Phillip are being organised.
others, by volunteers and offers
free parking in Ann Street .
Entry by a gold coin donation
gives you access to their
display located in one of the
old warehouses from the Port
authority. Seaworks was
About the Dutch Artists
Marielle Heessels
Lives in Rijen Netherlands
Marielle was invited to Australia to
create a Sand Sculpture for Sand
Art Gallery for the Sand Sculpting
Exhibition “The Art of Music”She
created the beautiful sculpture
titled “A Moment in Time”Her
experience in sculpting and
anatomy has been demonstrated
in this very creative sculpture.
Marielle travels the world
sculpting in Sand Snow and Ice
and her experience and creative
style has been welcomed to
Australia in Romsey Macedon
RangesMarielle turns 50 years
this year and is a lover of
conservation and Nature
Susanna Ruseler from Rotterdam
Netherlands living in Utrecht
Aged 41, studied at University of
Utrecht.
Susanne started sand sculpting
in 2003 while studying Biology.
She soon realised her love for
sculpting and began sculpting
more and more. After receiving
her masters degree in animal
behaviour and ecology she started
her own sculpting company.Her
sculpting ranged from mediums
such as sand snow ice foam and
concrete. She alternates from
medium to medium but enjoys
sand the most been her favourite
medium. Sand is wonderful and
interesting for her, she loves
its natural properties and every
sand batch is different providing
different challenges. Sands can
be strong, week, clean, dirty, fine,
course with different colours and
textures. i also like sand because
you can make something very big
very quickly compared to other
mediums.Sand is a fascinating
medium. It attracts so much
attention compared to other
mediums. People love having a
look because of the fact its made
out of sand and Sand Sculpting
festivals get much more exposure
than any other medium. Some
festivals can draw upto 500,000
visitors.For susanne the fact that
the sculptures are temporary
makes them more special. only
in this limited time can they be
seen, then they turn back to
just sand againSusanne created
her inspiration for the Sand
Sculpting Exhibition “the Art of
Music” for Sand Art Gallery titled
“Connected thru Music”
The gallery is open Wednesday
to Sunday 10:30-5:00. Come
and see how Sand Art Gallery
has created the humble grain
of sand into creative beautiful
breath taking art. Open now until
April 30th.
