at Øyeren, Encbak. In May/July 1966 a Black Stork (Ciconia nigra) at
Vinstervann, Øst-Jotiinheimen, and five Grasshopper Warblers (Locustella
nartlia) were observed in different parts of the country north to
North-l'rgndelag. These birds may also have arrived during the abovc
mentioned period. In the author's opinion these records are due to particular
weather conditions during the period in question. In this connection
the relevant European temperature curves and wind charts have
been examined. The influence of wcather conditions upon bird migration
is discussed and special attention paid to prolonged migration.
The author has arrived at the conclusion that the cxtraordinarily late
and cold spring of 1966 in North Europe, which was followed in the
2nd week of May by a sudden increase of temperature and prevailing
south-eastern winds in all probability caused a prolonged migration of
the above-named southern and south-eastern species.
