feminina: dois ouros olímpicos; 28 Circuitos Mundiais;
três ouros Pan-Americanos; quatro Jogos da Amizade;
e seis mundiais. E fora das quadras? O público sempre
caloroso dá verdadeiros shows de alegria, torcendo
Conseguir trazer a abertura do Circuito Mundial 2009
desenvolvimento do esporte brasileiro, o vice-governador
This second event held by a partnership between RB2
and ReUnion brings great pride to both corporations for
a number of reasons. It is the first time ever in Brazil
that a World Tour leg is hosted by a non-coastal city.
Also, it is the first time that this competition takes place
in the country’s capital city. And last but not least,
the tournament is part of Brasilia’s 49 th anniversary
celebration.
Brazil has therefore been able to show its great sports
talents. On the courts, athletes have already achieved
all the titles they could, both men and women. That
means two Olympic gold medals, 28 World Tour titles,
three Pan-American gold medals, four Goodwill Games,
and six World Championships. And what has been done
out of the courts? The ever cheerful audience has given
overwhelming demonstrations of joy by cheering for
their favourite players, singing, dancing, and making
the olas (audience waves) which have become a typical
feature of volleyball tournaments in our country.
It would not have been possible to host the opening
match of the 2009 World Tour in Brasilia without a
partnership between the Government of the Federal
District and Brasiliatur (Brasilia Tourism Office). “Vice
Governor Paulo Octávio, a key person to have promoted
the development of Brazilian sports, was a highly
efficient head of the board that applied for hosting the
2000 Olympic Games. During a process that started out
in the 1990s, he managed to gain sponsorship to some
grande patrocinador deste nosso evento.
– atletas, jornalistas, patrocinadores, torcedores,
brasileiras!
sports from government owned corporations. Thus, the
National Post Office Agency has supported swimming,
whereas the Banco do Brasil has provided relevant
sponsorship for volleyball competitions, including
this event. His assistance was vital to meet all FIVB
requirements,” says Ricardo Bernd, RB2 President.
“The support from Rôney Nemer, the Chief Officer of
Brasiliatur, was also essential for us to make this event
possible, since he envisioned a great opportunity to
promote Brasilia not only to the country but also to
the whole world by hosting the World Tour here in the
country’s capital city,” he adds.
ReUnion CEO Geraldo Rodrigues points out that
“Something that really makes us glad is the fact that
despite the world’s economic turndown, we succeeded
in accomplishing greater commercial purposes as
compared to last year, as we gained support from
nearly all 2008 sponsors. The only reason for such an
outstanding achievement lies on the remarkably high
quality of the event formerly held in Guarujá, SP, as
well as the striking return gained by the companies that
invested in that event.”
Now it is time for fun! May all participants – athletes,
journalists, sponsors, supporters, authorities, referees,
and working teams – celebrate Brasilia’s 49 years with
lots of peace, joy, and exciting matches. Preferably with
Brazilian victories…
