Aniversário da cida<strong>de</strong> | City’s anniversary<br />
Brasília ainda não completou seu cinqüentenário – está a apenas um<br />
passo <strong>de</strong>ssa marca. Cida<strong>de</strong> jovem, fruto da ousadia <strong>de</strong> Juscelino<br />
Kubitscheck, a capital fe<strong>de</strong>ral já já ostenta um importante título: o <strong>de</strong><br />
Patrimônio Histórico e Cultural da Humanida<strong>de</strong> Humanida<strong>de</strong> concedido em 1987<br />
pela Unesco – Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, a<br />
Ciência e a Cultura.<br />
Este ano, na semana em que comemora 49 anos, Brasília se<br />
transformará na capital mundial do vôlei <strong>de</strong> <strong>de</strong> praia com a realização<br />
da etapa <strong>de</strong> abertura do Circuito <strong>Mundial</strong> da modalida<strong>de</strong>. E, no<br />
dia <strong>de</strong> seu aniversário, 21 <strong>de</strong> abril, será homenageada com uma<br />
programação especial.<br />
Exibição <strong>de</strong> atletas especiais<br />
Às 11h30 entram em quadra oito atletas paraolímpicos <strong>de</strong> vôlei<br />
para presentear Brasília com uma apresentação inédita: uma partida<br />
<strong>de</strong> vôlei <strong>de</strong> praia. Todos fazem parte do Programa da Secretaria <strong>de</strong><br />
Educação do Distrito Fe<strong>de</strong>ral em parceria com a Associação do Centro<br />
<strong>de</strong> Treinamento <strong>de</strong> Educação Física Especial (CETEFE), que faz um<br />
trabalho social e esportivo com mais <strong>de</strong> 1.220 atletas com <strong>de</strong>ficiência<br />
em 12 modalida<strong>de</strong>s esportivas, em 11 núcleos paraolímpicos.<br />
O professor Ulisses Araújo, coor<strong>de</strong>nador geral do CETEFE há 27 anos,<br />
explica que o vôlei paraolímpico é disputado em quadra <strong>de</strong> 10m x 6 m,<br />
com regras específicas. São seis jogadores <strong>de</strong> cada lado que atuam<br />
sentados, com a re<strong>de</strong> a 1,15m <strong>de</strong> altura no masculino e a 1,05, no<br />
feminino. Os oito atletas que vão participar da exibição são amputados<br />
ou têm <strong>de</strong>ficiência em conseqüência <strong>de</strong> poliomielite, e cada equipe será<br />
formada por quatro jogadores. “Vai ser uma ótima oportunida<strong>de</strong> para<br />
divulgar o nosso trabalho e interagir com o público e com os atletas<br />
que disputarão a etapa do Circuito <strong>Mundial</strong> <strong>de</strong> <strong>Vôlei</strong> <strong>de</strong> <strong>Praia</strong>, pois quem<br />
quiser, vai po<strong>de</strong>r entrar no jogo”, ressalta o Prof. Ulisses. “Mas tem <strong>de</strong><br />
jogar sentado”, completa.<br />
Cerimônia <strong>de</strong> abertura: 12h<br />
Logo após a exibição dos atletas paraolímpicos, o Circuito <strong>Mundial</strong><br />
<strong>de</strong> <strong>Vôlei</strong> <strong>de</strong> <strong>Praia</strong> 2009 será oficialmente aberto. Durante a cerimônia,<br />
que contará com as presenças <strong>de</strong> autorida<strong>de</strong>s políticas e esportivas,<br />
patrocinadores e jogadores, serão homenageados dois atletas: o<br />
brasiliense Harley, eleito pela <strong>FIVB</strong> como o jogador fora <strong>de</strong> série do<br />
Circuito <strong>Mundial</strong> <strong>de</strong> 2008, e a campeã olímpica <strong>de</strong> 96, Sandra Pires,<br />
que se <strong>de</strong>spe<strong>de</strong> das quadras.<br />

Brasília has not turned 50 yet, but will soon be there. A young<br />
city conceived from <strong>Presi<strong>de</strong>nt</strong> Juscelino Kubitscheck’s daring<br />
i<strong>de</strong>as, the country’s capital city boasts boasts quite a remarkable<br />
achievement since it was listed by Unesco as a World Heritage<br />
site in 1987.<br />

Swatch <strong>FIVB</strong> World Tour opening match. On its anniversary<br />
(April 21), homage to the city will be paid through a special<br />

Physically impaired athletes exhibition<br />
At 11.30 a.m. eight physically impaired paralympic athletes will step on<br />
the court to star a never-seen-before show: a beach volleyball match.<br />
All these athletes attend the Fe<strong>de</strong>ral District Department of Education<br />
Program in partnership with CETEFE (Special Physical Education<br />
Training Center Association). CETEFE works on social and sports<br />
activities aimed at more than 1.220 physically impaired athletes in 12<br />
sports at 11 paralympic units.<br />
Instructor Ulisses Araújo, CETEFE General Coordinator for over 27<br />
years, explains that paralympic volleyball matches are conducted on a<br />
10m x 6m court, following specific regulations. There are six athletes<br />
on each si<strong>de</strong> playing seated and the height of the net is 1.15m for men<br />
and 1.05m for women. The eight participating athletes at the exhibition<br />
have had a limb amputated or bear polyomyelitis sequels, and each<br />
team will be composed by 4 players. “That will be a great opportunity<br />
to show our work and interact both with the audience and the World<br />
Tour athletes, because anyone will be allowed to play if they want so,”<br />
says Araújo. “But everyone will have to play seated,” he warns.<br />
Opening ceremony: 12.00<br />
Soon after the paralympic athletes show, the Swatch <strong>FIVB</strong> World Tour<br />
will be officially inaugurated. The ceremony will have politicians and<br />
sports celebrities as guests, as well as sponsors and players. Two<br />
athletes will be paid homage: Harley, born in Brasilia and voted by the<br />
<strong>FIVB</strong> as the 2008 Swatch <strong>FIVB</strong> World Tour most outstanding player, and<br />
1996 Olympic champion Sandra Pires, who will be retiring as a player.
