ABSTRACT<br />
This is a search for knowledge about the health of children with sickle cell trait because of the<br />
susceptibility of children with sickle cell disease admissions and on the rarity of cases of the<br />
disease in the region. Aims to meet the general health of children with sickle cell trait and<br />
specific objectives are to characterize the carrier of sickle cell trait, identifying the concept of<br />
health of patients with sickle cell trait and recognize the factors that affect health of children<br />
with sickle cell trait. As the literature review focused on sickle cell trait: the concept and the<br />
concept of health, the healthy childhood and family. Refers to a qualitative research as<br />
exploratory, case study, descriptive and personal. Held in the university clinic of the Regional<br />
University of Blumenau (FURB) in the city of Blumenau, serving various specialties, from<br />
February 2011 to July of that year. As a criterion for selection of the individual's research was<br />
chosen one year old child, who had a confirmed diagnosis of the disease, lived in Blumenau<br />
and conduct monitoring in the clinic where the research was performed. It was developed<br />
semi-structured interviews and systematic observation to collect data, for data analysis, was<br />
used content analysis. The ethical aspects have been respected by the expiry of that consent<br />
was given, explained and signed at the first interview. Approved on the ethics committee on<br />
the advice of number 172/10. The results are related to characteristics of the research subjects<br />
such as history, their daily habits, and genetic map genogram, which are straightforward,<br />
others are more subjective data, related to increased happiness and health through physical<br />
exercise and the interference of family, friends and pathology in the individual's health<br />
research, there is finally an analysis of the role of nursing care for patients with sickle cell<br />
trait. The conclusions reached surrounding the concept that a person with a disease can also be<br />
healthy and influence that the nurse has on that individual, or otherwise facilitating this<br />
process.<br />
