O seu decréscimo, face a 2008, foi de -16,2% (-30 mil dormidas), mas em relação a 2007, este mercado originou mais 4 mil dormidas. Áustria (136 mil dormidas), Dinamarca e Bélgica (129 mil) e Suécia (101 mil) constituíram o grupo dos restantes dez principais mercados, em termos de número de dormidas, nesta região. Todos apresentaram decréscimos consecutivos desde 2007 e, em conjunto, originaram menos 160 mil dormidas. O Turismo em 2009 Região Autónoma da Madeira Comportamento Sazonal da Procura A procura pela Região Autónoma da Madeira apresentou, em 2009, uma quota ligeiramente superior no mês de Agosto, mais marcada pelo mercado nacional (17,5%). A procura do mercado externo (mercado preponderante neste destino) variou entre 28% na época alta e atingiu o seu máximo na época média 37%. A época baixa concentrou 35% da procura. Dos mercados externos mais importantes para o destino destacaram-se o Reino Unido e a Alemanha com picos de procura na época baixa (respectivamente, 41% e 38% das respectivas dormidas anuais), França e Holanda na época média (respectivamente, 52% e 45%) e Espanha na época alta (66%). O mercado interno tende a uma distribuição relativamente regular nesta região, com quotas de procura que variaram entre 26% na época baixa, 34% na época média e 40% na época alta.
