In this edition SWISSCAM brings special success
stories of Swiss businesses in Brazil. Given the
impossibility of featuring all of the Swiss companies
and their individual trajectories in the
country, we instead offer a small and varied
sample composed of small, medium and large
companies, some with a century of history and
some who have only just begun their activities.
It is important to highlight that today Switzerland
is present in several sectors in Brazil, including heavy
machinery, products of mass consumption, and
specialized services for application in highly specific
niches.
Even though Brazil does not have a free trade agreement
with Switzerland, it is considered as its main business
partner in Latin America, being responsible for 38% of
Swiss business in the region. In the last decade, there
has been a 300% growth in bilateral trade between the
two countries.
The attractiveness of Brazil is due, among other factors,
to the expansion of the economy and the purchase
power of the Brazilian public, as well as the abundant
supply of credit, which has led to an increase in demand
for the high quality and innovation that Swiss products
offer. The fact that Brazil has managed to stabilize its
currency and inflation in addition to improving its control
over the banking system has helped to create a higher
level of trust among Swiss investors and investors from
other countries.

Almost 350 Swiss companies are established in Brazil.
According to the National Bank of Switzerland, the stock
of Swiss capital in the country in 2010 stood at 20.3 billion
Swiss Francs, which makes Switzerland one of the
main countries investing in Brazil.
Despite the previous obstacles, such as bureaucracy and
the heavy tax load, large Swiss companies continue to
make significant investments in the country and new
companies are still arriving, as you will see in the following
pages.
