Informations to AuthorsGED is the official journal of the Brazilian Society ofDigestive Endoscopy – SOBED, the Brazilian Fe<strong>de</strong>ration ofGastroenterology – FBG, the Brazilian Society of Hepatology– SBH, the Brazilian College of Digestive Surgery – CBCD,and of the Brazilian Society of Digestive Motility – SBMD,and the purpose of the journal is to publish papers thatmay contribute towards the progress of Gastroenterology,Digestive Endoscopy, Hepatology, Digestive Surgery andDigestive Motility. Papers sent to the GED Secretariat (Av.Brig. Faria Lima, 2.391 – 10o andar – cj. 102 –1452-000– São Paulo, SP, Brazil, e-mail ged@fbg.org.br), which areaccepted by the Editorial Board, and which have not beenpreviously or will not be concomitantly published in otherjournals may be published.Papers drafted in the Portuguese language will beaccepted. At the discretion of the Editorial Board, papersin the Spanish and in the English language may also beaccepted.GED adopts the Uniform Requirements for ManuscriptsSubmitted to Biomedical Journals of the InternationalCommittee for Medical Journal Editors, available in theInternet (http://www.icmje.org).GED ContentsEditorialsInten<strong>de</strong>d to present polemic, current, and impacting topicswhenever GED editors feel the need to present their viewin a synthetic manner, whether or not such topics arepresented in GEDpublished papers. Editorials are writtenby the editors and/or by Editorial Board members, or byinvited specialists.Original ArticlesClinical and/or experimental research papers shouldpresent the approval of the research given by the EthicsCommittee of the hospital, clinic, or institution were thestudy was carried out. The following items must be inclu<strong>de</strong>d:Summary (and keywords), Introduction, Methods, Results,Conclusions, References, and Summary and Keywords.Introduction – Presents the justification for the study, withreferences related to the topic and the objective of thepaper.Methods – Presenting: a) <strong>de</strong>scription of the sampleused; b) mention whether or not an informed consenthas been obtained; c) i<strong>de</strong>ntification of methods, <strong>de</strong>vices,and procedures used in or<strong>de</strong>r to permit reproductionof the results by the rea<strong>de</strong>rs; d) brief <strong>de</strong>scription andreferences to methods that have been published but thatare not broadly know; e) <strong>de</strong>scription of new methods or ofmodified methods; f) mention the statistical analysis or thesoftware used, as the case may be.Results – Presenting results in a logical sequence, intext format with tables and illustrations; authors shouldavoid excessive information repetition in the tables andillustrations and in the text. In the text, numbers below tenwill be written in full, whereas numbers 10 and beyond willbe written in Arabic numbers.Discussion – Emphasis will be given to: a) original andmajor aspects of the paper, without repetition of the aspectspreviously presented; b) relevance and limitations of thefi ndings, comparing them to information in the literature; c)connection of the conclusions to the objectives of the study;d) conclusions arising out of the study.References – Bibliographic references should appear in theor<strong>de</strong>r in which they are fi rst quoted in the text. They shouldfollow the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submittedto Biomedical Journals – http://www. icmje.org. Some of themore usual example are presented.Examples:1. New York: Lange Publishers, 1990:1471-2.The titles of journal should be abbreviated according to theIn<strong>de</strong>x Medicus (List of Journals In<strong>de</strong>xed). If the journal is notinclu<strong>de</strong>d in such list, write the name in full.Tables – Tables should have a summarized title, with explanatorycomments at the foot of the table. They should be sequentiallynumbered with Arabic numbers.Figures – Black and white fi gures will be accepted. Color fi guresmay be published when they are essential for the scientifi ccontents of the paper; in such case, the cost of publishingcolored fi gures will be covered by the authors.
