uma ténue possibilidade do Ultimate
constar dos Jogos em 2020, mas

(de praia) esteja nos Jogos de 2024.
Não seria fantástico? Se o Ultimate
de praia chegar a desporto olímpico
e a modalidade continuar a
crescer em Portugal como até aqui,
temos uma possibilidade muito forte
de ser um dos participantes :-)

Ultimate Frisbee
in the Olympics
On August 2, the International Olympic
Committee (IOC) fully recognized the World
Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) during its
128th session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
That means Ultimate, Beach Ultimate, Disc
Golf, and all other disc sport are now eligible
for IOC funding and can compete with other
sports for inclusion in future Olympic games.
“This is an incredible milestone in the
30 year history of WFDF and a further
important step for our International
Federation in the development of our sport
worldwide,” WFDF President Robert “Nob”
Rauch said in a statement. “The decision
will give a further boost to our efforts to
increasing the presence of Flying Disc sports
in all countries and on all continents.”
While Ultimate is now eligible to be included
in the Olympics, it must compete against a
wide range of more established sports for
inclusion in the program. One of the first
requirements that needs to be adhered to
is to have 75 member federations. WFDF
currently recognizes 65 countries with
organized disc federations such as APUDD,
and another 27 countries that are working
to get more organized. There is a small
chance that the 2020 Olympic Game will
include Ultimate, but the more realistic goal
for the WFDF is to get (Beach) Ultimate in
the 2024 Olympics. Wouldn’t that be great?
If Beach Ultimate becomes an Olympic
sport, and the sport continues to develop in
Portugal as it has, we have a realistic chance
of being a contender :-)

International Spirit of
the Game Day
Spirit of the Game (SOTG) is a deliberate
and consistent behavior displayed by
(Beach) Ultimate players worldwide. It
includes skills such as proper use and
knowledge of the rules; fair-mindedness;
clear and respectful communication;
spatial awareness; as well as a positive
attitude towards opponents and
teammates.
To recognize, celebrate and promote these
behaviors, the International Spirit of the
Game Day was born: December 3, 2015.
The brain child of Jim Gerencser (E.R.I.C.)
and Patrick van der Valk (BULA & WFDF),
this day is meant to showcase Spirit of
the Game on the field, as well as in daily,
regular life. People are encouraged to
share examples of Spirit of the Game in
real life and by doing so they have the
chance to win amazing Spirit of the Game
prizes from 15 well-known Ultimate
apparel organizations: Boon, Breakmark,
Double Happiness, Five, Flip, Force, Gaia,
Lookfly, Luckygrass, Rubixwear, Scu2,
Savage, Spin, VC, and Zue. From hats,
bags, and discs, to towels, shirts, and
shorts. Some really funky stuff.
