The artic les from The Collec tion of the Bibliophile,
written by the university librarians, invite us to a miraculous
travel of the book on philosophy, religion, politics, moral,
pedagogy, geography, history. The biographies, memories,
dictionaries, classical literature, magazines, treatises on art,
albums, museum catalogues in Romanian, Russian, French,
English, German, Latin, Greek have been gathered with much
care, love and competence. He made donations to our Library, we
can mention the volume of church music that was worked and
written on linear notation by Gavriil Muzicescu, Gheorghe J.
Dima, Grigore J. Gheorghiu that appeared in 1887 at Leipzig.
Many people will remember the State University Library
owing to the fact that the have seen Iu. Popa’s exhibits. He used
to help the librarians in exhibiting books, photographs , pic ture
postc ards, medals, badges, statutes and other piec es of the epoch
in the showcase. He used to think over the title himself with great
refinement , he designed the exposition so that it lured to you as
soon as you stepped into the library. His books of value,
beautifully published and skillfully dec orated by the masters of
the last c enturies or books that have just been published under
exc ellent graphic conditions have been offered generously to the
library in order to be exhibited for millions of students who c ame
to the library the last three years. The confirm the truth that the
book is everlasting, it will never bec ome a decaying one and that
via it the soc iety c an be genuinely c ultured. Iulius Popa refers to
the c risis of the reading w ith much regret . Tudor Vianu put in a
century ago: “We do not read. This is a tragedy for those who c an
feel. If a nation does not read it is on the beginner level…” The
fact that pupils and students do not read is a big tragedy for Iulius
Popa who has vocation for teaching and who is a skilful
journalist. He proved his love his nation and countrymen by
writing a historical monograph “Butesti. Come and see” and the
sec ond volume that is going to appear “Butesti. Remember”.
