Siamo in un momento storico in cui il livello di complessità che ci circonda e<br />
la quantità di informazioni con cui siamo potenzialmente equipaggiati sono<br />
in contrasto con un, forse naturale, desiderio di semplicità e chiarezza. Ciò<br />
provoca un estremo appiattimento del mondo che ci circonda e delle persone<br />
che lo abitano e, forse ancora più importante, del nostro impegno e della<br />
nostra comprensione di quella che che è già una storia selettiva. La singolarità<br />
della narrazione, molto spesso legata al contesto globale di Blackness, è<br />
complice di questa spinta verso l’agio, ed erode l’umanità che può essere<br />
apprezzata solo quando la gamma delle narrazioni e le differenze diventano il<br />
fulcro della celebrazione.<br />

Adagio mette anche in evidenza una chiamata critica per una riflessione<br />
consapevole sul lento cammino verso la giustizia e l’appartenenza sociale.<br />
La nostra più profonda gratitudine va a tutti coloro che hanno aderito a questo<br />
sforzo culturale e celebriamo ognuno di voi per aver creduto nella validità<br />
di questa iniziativa per abbattere le divisioni, le gerarchie e le distinzioni che<br />
troppo spesso respingono la fioritura delle collaborazioni interistituzionali.

We are in a historic moment where the level of complexity<br />
that surrounds us and the amount of information that we are<br />
potentially equipped with are at odds with a, perhaps natural,<br />
desire for simplicity and clarity. This provokes an extreme<br />
flattening of the world around us and of the people that<br />
inhabit it and, perhaps more importantly, of our engagement<br />
and understanding of, what is already, a selective history. The<br />
singularity of the narrative, too often, tethered to the global<br />
context of Blackness compliments this push towards ease,<br />
battering the humanity that can only be appreciated when<br />
the range of narratives and differences become the focus of<br />
celebration.<br />
This fourth annual celebration of Black History Month<br />
Florence takes on the thematic title ADAGIO. This title<br />
encourages and reminds us to slow down and appreciate the<br />
incredible depths and range of Afro-Descendent cultures and<br />
the incredible cultural wealth which is too often overlooked.<br />
Adagio also facets a critical call for a conscious reflection upon<br />
the slow pace towards social justice and belonging.<br />
Our deepest gratitude goes out to all who adhered to this<br />
cultural effort and we celebrate every one of you for believing<br />
in the validity of this initiative to break down the divisiveness,<br />
hierarchies and distinctions that too often keep crossinstitutional<br />
collaborations from blossoming.
