Climbing – world class
Lysekil is situated amongst the cliffs of
Bohuslän and here you find some of the
best climbing opportunities in the world.
The Bohus granite has for several hundred
years been known for its amazing
quality and here you find climbing opportunities
for everyone.
A taste of Lysekil
Lysekil is a veritable treasure trove of
fish and shellfish. We can proudly tell
you that the shell fish are absolutely
world class throughout the year, but
during the autumn they are definitely
the best in taste and in quality. This is
when you should visit and feast on

prawns, N orwegian lobster, lobster dinner
events, a mussel and oyster extravaganza
and enjoy the sun set with fine
wines and candlelight.
Tradition
Lysekil is the youngest town in Bohuslän.
In 1903 Lysekil was given town privileges
by King Oscar II. In the middle of the
1800’s Professor Carl Curman laid the
foundations to the open air pool which
is still very much in use. Carl and Calla
Curman also built villas in the old Norse
style, the so-called “Curman villas” that
still can be seen in Lysekil. Apart from
the important herring times, which were
the cause of much prosperity for Lysekil,
quarrying was also very important for the
town. Stångehuvud lies to the south west
far out on the headland. Here the oldest
quarry of the area was situated. In Lysekil
quarrying gave way to anchovy production
and at the turn of the century canning
became a very important part of the
Lysekil trade. At the same time Lysekil’s
mechanical industry (Skandiaverken)
emerged, and became the largest boat
engine factory in the Nordic countries.
For those who value traditions and would
like to experience a little bit of history it
is possible to go to all of the areas mentioned
to see the buildings and businesses.

to visit too.

Lysekil is a place where you can recharge
your batteries and give your body the care
it deserves. Relax, close your eyes and
stop the clocks for a moment. E xperience
it all at a sedentary pace.
And Lysekil is not just about summer,
with rippling water, sun and beach
life. An old fisherman from Lyseskil used
to say: “When the storm lashes you in
the face like hail, that’s when you know
you’re alive!”
Going out at the crack of dawn one
October morning to pull up pots, with the
wind blowing at 15 metres per second,
it’s easy to understand what he meant.
When the wind is whipping up foam
on the rocks and you’re soaked in sweat
from pulling up pots. Not to mention the
euphoric feeling you get just as the pot
breaks the surface and you can see two
big black lobsters crawling on the bottom.
It might hurt your face, but it’s food
for the soul! The sea is roaring and you’re
totally at one with nature.
