8 Upplevelsevärden i ABC-stråket
Summary
This report looks at green and blue “experience values” which can be expected to be
signifi cant to the attractiveness of the Stockholm-Uppsala corridor (the ABC corridor)
and from the perspective of regional development. The study describes experiences in
a broad sense, from pure experiences of the countryside, such as outdoor recreation,
to events such as open-air rock concerts, in other words activities and experiences
associated with different locations in “green” or “blue” surroundings. The study especially
emphasises the value of activities associated with water. Green areas close to
water have a particular value in terms of nature conservation, recreation and tourism.
Many of our lakes and rivers also incorporate recreational functions, e.g. sailing,
skating, water sports and fi shing. The report also covers different ways of highlighting
attractive green/blue environments in the region and areas with particular potential.
The results are presented on about ten maps.
There are currently no established methods for identifying these types of qualities
or areas in a regional context. Much of the work has therefore involved discussing
methods and concepts and testing different approaches, e.g. GIS analyses to identify
experience value, accessibility analyses and expert assessments. The method used is
illustrated below.
The methods, maps and the database developed and used in the study have the potential
to be used in ongoing joint projects across county and municipal boundaries
to develop these experience values and their accessibility. The underlying data is also
interesting in a wider sense, e.g. in town planning and developing tourism.
The results show that the ABC corridor is rich in access to attractive green and blue
environments in a broad sense. Lake Mälaren and all the area’s lakes and rivers, varied
countryside, rich cultural settings, trails, paths and events are examples of assets which exist
at the moment and which offer major development opportunities in the future. One important
area with particular development potential, in terms of experiences, is the waterway between
Uppsala and Stockholm.
