один. Я продал дом и теперь живу с дочерью. У меня также
есть другая женщина. Она тоже потеряла своего мужа, и нам
хорошо вместе. Как видите, я очень занятой человек!
Губерния: Вы считаете, что стали частью истории?
Грабс: Нет, на самом деле, нет. Я был лишь участником,
частью группы. Я не действовал особняком.
Губерния: Как Вы считаете, молодое поколение понимает,
какую высокую цену заплатили за мир?
Грабс: Каждой весной вот уже четыре года я посещаю
6 класс начальной школы, для того чтобы рассказать о войне.
Некоторые вопросы, которые задают дети, показывают,
что они действительно понимают, что свобода не приходит
сама по себе, она выбарывается.
Губерния: Может, Вы хотите что-то сказать своим
«соратникам» ветеранам или напутственное слово молодому
поколению?
Грабс: Я считаю, что каждый мужчина должен отслужить
в армии. Когда я говорю эти вещи на людях, меня за это упрекают,
но это мое мнение. Я знаю, что это дало мне!

Guberniya: What do you do to stay busy these days?
Grubbs: Well, look here at my calendar. Each day has
something for me to do. Mostly, I have commitments with the
VFW Post here and the American Legion. I visit the Post here
nearly everyday….raise the flag each morning. I also serve as
part of the honor guard for funerals. It’s something we offer
to veterans who request this service. I am the bugle boy. To
be honest, the bugle plays itself. We keep the rifles here at
the Post too…seems like there are so many funerals these
days.
I am also very active at my church, Elsmere Baptist. Every
Sunday, I shake everyone’s hand and know each person by their
first name. It’s like a family.
Since my wife past away a few years ago, my children didn’t
want me to live alone. So, I sold my house and now live with my
daughter. I also have a girlfriend. She also lost her spouse and
we find each other to be great company. As you can see, I am
one BUSY GUY!
Guberniya: Do you feel like you had some real part in
changing history?
Grubbs: No, not really. I was part of a group, not an
individual.
Guberniya: Do you think the younger generation
understands the heavy price which was paid during the Great
War?
Grubbs: Each spring for about four years now, I have been
visiting the 6th Grade class at Kelly Elementary School to speak
about the War. Some of the questions the youngsters ask indicate
that they really do understand that freedom is not free.
Guberniya: Maybe you have some words for your fellow
Veterans or for this generation?
Grubbs: I think every man living should serve a term in the
military. I have sometimes been spat on for saying this in public,
but I believe it. I know what it did for me!
