A taste of the Past
URDU
Mubashar A. Solangi
B.Sc. II
Now Urdu, dear friends, I am sure you’ll agree
Is the easiest language there ever could be.
The grammar is simple, exceptions are rare,
And only the spelling requires a little care.
In English the letters are just six and twenty
And that I should say is certainly plenty.
But in Urdu we have some nine letters more,
And they too are not needed, I am sure.
Now let us examine the letter and see,
Just how many there really need to be.
,ت , we have also got ٹ Let us start with
So why ط is needed, I really can’t say.
And why should the number of sح be two,
When common sense says one ح would do.
word, I am sure is quite a nice محبوبہ
But why not مھبوبہ It seem absurd.
And why does Urdu need three kinds of “S”,
Which makes the learner merely to guess.
, س or simply ث or ص If it is
It makes it tougher than if it never had been.
And ض is a letter which causes dismay,
, ز were just ض How easy would it be if
For ظ and ض and ذ seem to be,
A needless headache as all must agree.
, ح and ط So if we get rid of both
, ث , and ص , and ظ , ذ , ض
Then the spelling in Urdu I’m sure you agree,
Would present no more pain for you and me.
