Preface
The Anatomy and Physiology Learning System includes a textbook, a student study guide, and
an Evolve site to help instructors present a quality educational experience for students preparing
to enter one of the health-related professions. It is designed for students in college,
technical school, adult education, and career training, either private or public. Used together,
the textbook and student study guide are effective as a self-study A&P review for licensure
examinations. The textbook presents fundamental information and concepts in a manner
that encourages learning and understanding. The topics are consistent with those needed
by students in the health-related professions. Students with minimal science background, as
well as those with greater preparation, will appreciate the clear and concise writing style that
makes the book easy to read and comprehend. Numerous clinical applications add interest
and provide a springboard for discussions or projects. The colorful illustrations in the textbook
make it visually attractive and facilitate learning.
The new edition includes a combined vocabulary section called Building Your Medical
Vocabulary that will help students learn etymology of terms, giving them the building blocks
to use and recognize new terms. A new Vocabulary Quiz at the end of each chapter stresses
the importance of these terms while helping students learn them. One hundred new colorful
illustrations have been designed exclusively for this new edition and will help drive home
concepts while keeping students visually stimulated.
The textbook component is comprehensive and can be used as a stand-alone item. The
study guide, which follows the same outline as the textbook, provides an added dimension to
