Nowaday, many local and international
groups and companies are willing to engage
in CSR efforts aimed to solve Vietnam's
social issues as well as making the country
grow in a sustainable way. Fortuna Hotel
Hanoi takes a lot of efforts to provides
various CSR activities in categorising
sustainable development not as following the
trend but with the belief that the sustainable
development represents an economic yet
postmodern imperative for future besides
many other ethical reasons.
Charitable initiatives
Never as a burden, among many CSR
initiatives that Fortuna Hanoi is taking,
charitable is, in reverse, believed to be a
lift to the business. There was a time in
Vietnam when CSR was mistaken as just
charity and such burden or a waste of time.
But from the very start, charitable activities
have always been included in the Fortuna's
yearly business plan with the effort from the
hotel management to make the activities
annual and to involve as many employees as
possible.
Fortuna Hanoi has two annual charity drives,
one is in the beginning and the other is in
the middle of the year. Both are aiming to
the the underprivileged people, mostly are
the elder ones who are almost all the time
overlooked and the younger ones who are
the bright future of the society. The charity
idea is very clear and customized for each
group of people who receive our support.
We take initiatives as building school with
proper facilities for kids in the remote area
while for the lonesome old people, we try to
warm up their heart with ideas of self-made
food, presents and activities in order to
make them feel belonging and involved.
We also continuously participate in many
external charitable activities as venue
sponsor and all activities are very selective
to make sure we are doing the right thing to
the right one.
Last year at the Inauguration Ceremony of
a primary school in Na Tuom (Ha Giang),
Mr. Roger Chng, Fortuna Hotel's General
Director stated that "With this new
education facility, we hope to contribute a
small part to improve the future and living
standards of the underprivileged students.
We will continue to support the genuine
needs of the underprivileged with the desire
to improve society".
Beyond charity
We believe that CSR is not only for the sake
of ethical reasons but it also can bring longterm
benefits such as improving reputations
and boosting productivity. Yet we never take
CSR as "just making a donation".
At Fortuna Hanoi, beside applying
techniques to manager energy saving and
using environmental friendly facilities, guests
are, by all means, encouraged to reduce
energy usage.
Fortuna Hanoi also participates or
even self-hosts many events to support
enhancing awareness about social issues
such as Run for Children, Earth Hour, Tree
Planting Day... "We believe in the impact it
extends to every people around than the
contribution of the event itself". - said Mr.
Albert, General Manager of Fortuna Hanoi.
We also proud to say that all employees in
Fortuna are treated the same way we treat
our guests, with commitment, care, respect
and a very fair compensation and benefit
policies. Essential training courses have been
holding externally, internally and interdepartment
in order to ensure employees
development that they are deserved to be
invested in.
A hope for a better society
To admit, corporate social responsibility can
be viewed as a big challenge because it is
difficult for a brand or business to implement
wellness and sustainable initiatives without
being seen as trying too hard, exploiting
a situation, appearing self-serving or even
inauthentic. Yet we hold a strong belief that
as long as we truly focus on delivering the
best service to our guests and the wellness
to the society, people will appreciate the
effort and hopefully, they will have a more
positive lifestyle.
"If what you do doesn't make any difference
to your clients, then you should really dig
deeper whether or not you should invest
into the project anymore. But people care
about things and efforts, and at times, your
business should too" - said Mr. Albert.
