Day 1 

Arrival in Athens and Athens Sightseeing 

Welcome to Athens! 

Your transfer from the Athens airport is the start to your 

tour. It is approximately a 45 minute drive to your hotel 

in Athens. Check in to your hotel and the rest of the day 

is free until your first dinner in Athens. 

The dinner setting is at local family-owned restaurant, 

one of the few traditional restaurants in Athens. Enjoy 

the Greek cuisine and the hospitality of the owners.

Day 2 

Athens Sightseeing 

Today enjoy sightseeing in Athens. Your expert guide will give 

you the opportunity to fully understand the role of Athens in 

antiquity and through the ages. 

Your guide will reveal to you the secrets of the Acropolis 

& the Parthenon, the Temple of Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch and 

the Kallimarmaro Stadium, built of marble for the first 

modern Olympic Games in 1896. 

Experience the ancient wonders and relive the birthplace of 

democracy, twist and turn through the Plaka’s narrow 

streets and find ancient sites, cafes and shops full of history 

and character. 

After the visit to the Acropolis continue to the Acropolis 

Museum. A beautiful new museum (opened in 2009) with 

exceptional finds from the Acropolis.

Dinner at local restaurant. 


Day 3 

Epidaurus, Mycenae, Nafplion 

Set off from Athens and drive to the Corinth Canal and see this 

incredible feat of engineering. The canal that divides mainland 

Greece from the Peloponnese peninsula. 

Sightseeing Mycenae and Epidaurus 

Walk under the famous Lion gate up to the Mycenaean 

acropolis and the Palace. Mycenae is very impressive as it is 

possible to feel the city as you retrace the steps of the ancients. 

See the tomb of Agamemnon and the ruins of the Cyclopean 

walls that protected this mighty city. 

The site of Epidaurus, which is listed as a world heritage site 

by Unesco, is vast. With ruins of temples and hospital 

buildings devoted to the healing gods; it is considered to be 

the birthplace of Asklepios. The sites monuments, particularly 

the temple of Asklepios, the Tholos and the Theatre are 

considered some of the purest masterpieces of Greek 

architecture and date from the 4th century BC. For most 

travelers Epidaurus is known for the magnificent theater that 

still stands there – and is still used for plays and other 

performances. Take the time to walk the grounds leading up to 

the theater and there we shall check the famous acoustics. The 

theater is considered a marvel of engineering as the acoustics 

are unrivaled even by today’s standards. 

Nafplio 

Your journey today will end in Nafplion. The city itself is a pleasure 

to walk around with great views to the waterfront and some lovely 

neoclassical buildings which manage to maintain the grand feel of 

this city. Nafplion is one of the most beautiful and historical towns 

of Greece.

Day 4 

Nafplion and walking tour, ouzo tasting and bee 

keeping! 

Nafplio 

Today enjoy a walking tour of Nafplion. The port town still retains 

its character with a lovely square, narrow alley ways and beautiful 

neoclassical buildings. 

Your guide will take you on an interesting orientation walk of the 

town combined with ouzo tasting. Ouzo is a local drink with a 

particular liquorice-like taste loved by the locals. Your local guide 

will explain the importance of the town of Nafplion both in ancient 

but also in modern Greece. Of course you cannot miss the many 

cafes on the waterfront and the lively local life. 

Enjoy time for at leisure for lunch before continuing the day with 

some bee keeping! 

After lunch visit a local bee keeper and see how Greek honey is 

made. A real experience allowing you to see and interact with the 

locals and see the actual production of the honey.

Day 5 

Nafplion to Monemvasia. Visit Mystras. 

Enjoy a spectacular drive south towards the Medieval citadel of 

Monemvasia,, a tiny island, separated from the Peloponnese by a 

barrow. On the way you will stop to visit Mystras. Often overlooked it 

is a spectacular sight with a rich history and extensive grounds 

to explore. 

Sightseeing 

Mystras 

Mystras, the 'wonder of the Morea', was built as 

an amphitheatre around the fortress erected in 1249 by the prince of 

Achaia, William of Villehardouin. Reconquered by the Byzantines, 

then occupied by the Turks and the Venetians, the city was 

abandoned in 1832, leaving only the breathtaking medieval ruins, 

standing in a beautiful landscape. Mystras was a living settlement 

from the 13th century to the 19th century when it gradually started 

to be deserted due to the foundation of the new town of Sparta. It 

retained its completeness as a fortified urban unit of the late- 

Byzantine period. Mystras constitutes a unique example of a 

Byzantine city, an expression of flourishing urban society within the 

late Byzantine Empire. As a political and administrative 

provincial centre of the Byzantine state, Mystras became a unique 

intellectual, cultural and artistic centre. 

Mystras is a truly outstanding example of late Byzantine 

culture which influenced the rest of the Mediterranean world 

and beyond. 

After a lunch stop (at leisure) at Mystras village continue to 

Monemvasia.

Driving hours approx: 2 hours Nafplion to Mystras and 2 hours from 

Mystras to Monemvasia 


• Monemvasia means “one entrance” and in fact the only access to this castle is via 

a causeway. This uniquely preserved mediaeval town is carved into the majestic grey 

rock like a sculpture. Peer into the history of the fortress –the so-called “Gibraltar of 

the East”–, which was occupied by the Byzantines, the Crusaders, the Venetians, 

and the Turks in the past. In the lower part of the town are the ruins of the historic 

buildings among which the Muslim Mosque, a preserved 16th century building 

housing the Archaeological Museum, as well as the magnificent Byzantine churches. 

The (uninhabited) upper part of the town has the remains of old Byzantine buildings 

and offers spectacular views to the Aegean Sea.

Day 6 

Monemvasia Hike and explore ! 

Monemvasia 

A day dedicated to enjoying the spectacular nature of the Peloponnese. 

Enjoy a beautiful hike of the region, including in depth local life 

experiences. 

Hike: 

The starting point is the small village of Talanta about 30 minutes from 

Monemvasia. The trail starts from the village of Talanta where, crossing 

the small gorge, you find the ruins of the watermills that existed in the 

area. At the beginning of the trail and after 500 m of cobbled pathway, 

you will visit the Talanta water mill (a short tour) you will be greeted by 

barba-Yiannis, the last miller who has been grinding wheat for over 60 

years. He will explain the imprtnace of the mill, also the secrets of his 

work as well as many stories. 

You will then descend the canyon, an easy route between century old olive 

trees, and little streams, enabling you to get an understanding of the local 

flora.On tnis trail of approx 4 kmt , you will have the opportunity to see the 

rugged landscape of the Peloponnese. 

Wine Tasting 

In the afternoon a wine tasting ! Enjoy the local wines of the Peloponnese 

from within the Monemvasia fort walls.

Day 7 

Monemvasia to Limeni 

Limeni 

Set off from Monemvasia to Limeni. Enjoy a spectacular 

drive through the Peloponnnese to the small, and exquisitely 

beautiful, village of Limeni. The port village with stone mansions 

perched on the waterfront. Considered to be one of the most 

beautiful villages of the Peloponnese. 

Hike 

A significant and very interesting hiking path is a the southern tip of 

the Peloponnese and appox 1 hour from Limeni. 

The trail leads to the most southern point of Europe [cape Tenaro]. 

It is a coastal hike of about two kilometres all the way to the 

beautiful light house at the tip of the peninsula. 

Interestingly traces of the importance of this location are evident at 

the start of the trail where ancient settlement [Greek and Roman] 

have been excavated. 

The hike is easy and very interesting.

Day 8 

Limeni to Pylos. 

Visit Ancient Messini on the way 

Messini 

This morning set off from Limeni to Pylos. On route visit Ancient 

Messini – spectacular sight. 

Sightseeing Messini: 

One of the most impressive ancient sights still being excavated is 

that of Messini. The remains of this vast ancient city are as 

extensive as those of Olympia and Epidavros, yet Ancient Messini 

receives only a fraction of their visitors. The sight is picturesquely 

situated on a hillside below the village of Mavromati, the site 

comprises a large theatre, an agora (marketplace), a sizeable 

Sanctuary of Asclepius and one of the most stunning Ancient Greek 

stadiums. Very well worth a visit. 

Continue on to Pylos for your overnight stay. Coastal Pylos presides 

over the southern end of an immense bay. With its huge natural 

harbour that's formed by the Sfaktiria Islet, its castle and surrounding 

pine-covered hills, Pylos is not just picturesque, but is also one of the 

region's most historically significant towns.

Day 9 

Pilos to Olympia. 

Visit Ancient Olympia and dinner at a local home 

Set off from Pylos this morning to visit Ancient Olympia, the birthplace 

of the Olympic Games. 

Olympia 

Sightseeing Olympia 

You will visit the main site and afterwards the very 

interesting museum. At the main site you can see the temple of 

Zeus which once housed one of the 7 wonders of the World – 

a statue of Zeus made out of ivory and Gold. Your expert 

guide will show you the gymnasium where the athletes 

trained, the nymphaeum and of course the main stadium in 

which the games were held. The museum is a short walk from 

the site and contains the 4th Century BC statue of Hermes 

by Praxiteles, plus a number of other finds from the 

excavations including the Nike of Victory by Paeonios. 

According to Olympic legend she used to come down from the 

sky to hand a palm leaf to the winners. 

The site of Olympia is one of the most important in Greece and 

one of the most awe inspiring due to its beauty and unique 

setting. It is not only that it is so rich in history – it is a lovely 

spot to visit. 

Highlight Dinner

Enjoy a wonderful meal of local ingredients at a locals’ house.

Day 10 

Olympia to Athens 

Farewell 

In the morning today set off from Olympia back to Athens. As 

this trip comes to an end enjoy the drive back through the 

beautiful Peloponnese scenery.

Three hundred metres from the castle gate, at 

the end of the stone-paved main street that 

runs through the town is the Malvasia Hotel. 

The Malvasia Hotel, among the earliest 

organised lodgings in the castle, is a complex 

of stone buildings, created by joining together 

independent houses. The restoration of these 

houses was undertaken in the mid-1980s, with 

great respect towards the preserved historical 

features and unique architectural styles of the 

castle. Their recent renovation was completed 

in 2015. 

The main hotel offers 14 rooms, each 

decorated differently with antique furniture 

and rugs, that exude the warm atmosphere of 

the house. Most of the rooms offer beautiful 

sea views, while many of them have a balcony 

and their own fireplace. All of them are

This tour includes walking on uneven ground. The sights visited at parts 

include uphill walking on unpaved ground. Keep in mind that all ancient 

sites have unpaved paths.
