Since I arrived in this city the resignation of Bro. Pickett, as Rt. W.
Grand Secretary, was received by me, consequently that office is now va
cant, and an immediate election to fill the vacancy is recommended.
A very fraternal communication was received by me from the M. W.
Grand Lodge of Virginia, inviting the officers and members of the Grand
Lodge of Illinois, to participate with them in the pleasing duty of Masonic-
ally laying a corner stone of a monument to be erected in the City of Rich
mond, to the memory of our illustrious Bro. George Washington.
the subordinates are in a most healthy and prosperous condition. More
than ordinary caution is avowedly exercised by the lodges in the reception
of members -consequently our altars are, measurably, sacred from the of
ferings of the unworthy, and our sanctuaries unj>olhited by the presence of
the mercenary ami the profligate.
Which address on motion was referred to a special committee consisting
of Bros. Warren, Bray man and Snyder.
Bro. Warren submitted the following preamble and resolutions, which
