18 km over hill and dale, passing little rivers, herds<br />
of reindeer and huge scree slopes, the latter of<br />
which bear testimony to the last ice age; as do the<br />
moun tains, which were given their final polish by<br />
the shifting ice masses. The wilderness feeling is<br />
tangible; the vast expanses provoke the sobering<br />
thought that we are all just a very small part of an<br />
enormous whole. After 10 hours of walking we<br />
head down to the campsite to enjoy the last rays<br />
of sunshine and welcome the night.<br />
