Live Well at Home
with Home Care Assistance
If you are looking for a new exercise
routine and haven’t tried yoga
before, this just might be your year.
From spine-strengthening cobra poses
followed by a sudsy craft brew to
rejuvenating downward-facing dog
stretches in the company of kitties, the
list of creative, popular yoga offerings
means there’s one just right for you.
Here’s a glimpse of some of the classes
available in the Orlando area:
Hot Yoga takes place in a studio
that is heated to 102-105 degrees,
where students balance, stretch and
sweat their way through the workout.
Ocoee’s Toni Wheeler works
out at Hot on Yoga in Winter
Garden and Orlando Power
Yoga in Dr. Phillips, and she loves
them both.
“I prefer a hot studio, because it
intensifies the workout by allowing
deeper stretching as your muscles
warm up,” she said. “I find it therapeutic
and a great way to stay in
shape.”
Feline friends rejoice! Orlando
Cat Café in Clermont has the purrfect
class for you. Yoga with cats
includes one hour of yoga followed
by 30 minutes of time visiting with
the kitties in the “cat play area,”
which will leave you feeling relaxed
and rejuvenated. All of the cats who
call the café home are available for
adoption, so who knows, you might
just go home with a new furry family
member. Classes are offered the
second and fourth Saturday morning
of every month for $15, and reservations
are required. Call 352-989-
4820 or visit their Facebook page.
There’s even a yoga class for beerlovers.
Hair of the Downward
Dog yoga class takes place every
Saturday at 11 a.m. on the silo
lawn of Crooked Can Brewing
Co. in Winter Garden’s Plant Street
Market. Bring a mat and the $10
fee, which includes the class and a
13- or 16-ounce beer of your choice.
(Participants under 21 are welcome
for $5.)
If you are looking for an alternative
to Friday happy hour, consider
Orlando Brewing’s Yoga
Under the Stars, which takes
place at 7 p.m. on the third Friday of
the month. For more information, visit
www.orlandobrewing.com or check
them out on Facebook.
“Holy Yoga is very much like
traditional yoga with the breaths,
movements and poses. It’s just Christcentered,
and that faith anchors our
intentions and meditations,” said
Ocoee resident Amy Brady, a registered
Holy Yoga instructor.
If you are looking to strengthen
your body, be part of a supportive
community, and connect with the
Creator, Holy Yoga might be for
you. Popular worldwide, classes are
available in the Orlando area and
via an online monthly subscription.
Visit www.holyyoga.net to find a
class or learn more.
Looking for a good laugh?
Laughter Yoga combines unconditional
laughter with breathing
exercises designed to relax
facial muscles, strengthen abdominal
muscles, improve your energy
and mood, and increase pain tolerance.
Meet up with others at the
CommuniTeeHee Laughter Club
on Mondays at 11:30 a.m. for a
free workout at the Mayor Beardall
Senior Center, located at 800 S.
Delaney Ave. in Orlando. For more
information, search “Laughter Yoga
Orlando” on Google.
Now that the hot weather of
summer has arrived, consider trading
your yoga mat for a stand-up
paddleboard. SUP Yoga, as it is
known to devotees, offers the additional
challenge of executing balance
poses while afloat. Fresh air,
sunshine and the many peaceful
lake settings in the area turn newbies
into fans. Head to Lake Ivanhoe

In the glitzy and expanding Dr.
Phillips Center for the Performing
Arts, Southwest resident and Orange
County Mayor Teresa Jacobs
gave her last State of the County address
to a large crowd.
“In reflecting on this amazing era
of recovery, discovery and transformation,
an era of tragedy and
triumph, I believe we have truly become
the best place to live, work
and raise a family,” she said.
The Jones High School Opus Singers
and Brass Quintet entertained attendees
during the pre-event reception.
Southwest resident Rich Maladecki,
president and CEO of the Central
Florida Hotel & Lodging Association
gave the opening remarks.
Before the mayor took the stage,
she played a video providing a look
back at the past nearly eight years,
providing a visual of how she has
aimed to improve the community for
“our children, their children and their
grandchildren.”
This is Jacobs’ last year as mayor.
Term limits do not allow her to run
again.
NOTEWORTHY NEWS
Mayor Jacobs Gives
Her Final State of the County Address
Jacobs interspersed her address
with some humor, reminiscing about
test-driving a helicopter in simulation
and crashing it, operating a bulldozer
during a code-enforcement
operation, and recalling how the
Windermere mayor danced with
her and others during a commission
meeting. She thanked her family,
county staff and county commissioners
for their support and hard work.
Then she turned serious, recalling
why she ran for mayor and how she
has tackled the needs of children
and families during her years in office.
Jacobs began her first term on
the “heels of the Great Recession,”
when the county lost about $150 million
in annual revenue. The county’s
economy has rebounded. It now enjoys
a Triple-A bond rating.
by Debra Wood
“Knowing that economies can experience
volatility is the reason that I
have focused so intently on boosting
our fiscal management practices and
improving our credit worthiness,”
Jacobs said.
Jacobs reported that the county
issued 84,000 building permits
in 2017, valued at more than $2.3
billion. She recalled that when she
took office, employees of the building
department were furloughed
because of a lack of demand and
funding.
The area’s tourism and hospitality
industry has rebounded, and Central
Florida remains the No. 1 travel
destination in the country, generating
$70 billion in economic impact
and supporting about one-third of
the jobs in the county. Last year,
Southwest resident and Orange County
Mayor Teresa Jacobs presents her final
State of the County address.
the hospitality industry generated
$255 million in Tourist Development
Taxes.
“Thanks to the superior customer
service of our frontline workers,
we’ve made Central Florida the envy
of the global hospitality market,”
Jacobs said. “Thank you to our tourism
leaders.”
Niral Patel, M.D.

Jacobs called the state of Orange
County strong. She praised neighbors
helping neighbors during hurricanes
Maria and Irma and the
community’s “culture of compassion
and collaboration.”
Not all has been positive. On June
12, 2016, patrons of Pulse nightclub
were attacked.
“Together, our community endured
a nightmare that none of us could
ever have imagined,” said Jacobs,
before playing a video that highlighted
the 49 people who lost their
lives that night.
She discussed how the county, in
cooperation with the city of Orlando
and United Way, opened the
Orlando United Assistance Center to
help surviving victims.
“As overwhelming as the loss was,
the response of our community was
equally overwhelming,” Jacobs said.
“Never would I have imagined the
outpouring of love and unity, or the
depth of our strength and resilience.
As a community, we share a commitment
to make sure the whole world
never forgets our 49 Pulse angels.”
Jacobs also remarked on the efforts
the county has taken to help
with the rehoming of Hurricane
Maria evacuees from Puerto Rico
and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and to
address the opioid crisis.
The speech occurred on the day
of another mass casualty shooting
in a high school. Jacobs paused
for a moment of silence and teared
up before talking about making
schools and places of worship safe
again and dealing with mental
illness.
Jacobs and the county commissioners
took the public-safety action
this year to close the “gun show loophole.”
The new law “requires criminal
background checks and a three-day
waiting period for everyone who
purchases a firearm at a gun show,
flea market or firearms exhibit — a
requirement that otherwise only applied
if you are purchasing a firearm
from a licensed gun dealer,” she
said.
Jacobs also talked about addressing
the challenges of affordable
housing, increasing the number of
www.SouthwestOrlandoBulletin.com x July 5 — 18, 2018 x 9
animals adopted through animal
services, and remembering sacrifices
of first responders, including
Windermere Police Officer Robbie
German, who was “senselessly
gunned down by two suicidal
teens. Both teens then took their
own lives.”
She reported that Orange County’s
unemployment rate has declined
from 10.7 percent when she took office
to a current rate of 3.2 percent.
Orange County has added 160,000
new jobs during that time.
Second Opinion for Surgery
Rather than leave with a feeling
that Jacobs took credit for all of the
progress the community has experienced,
she humbly suggested that
people have come together to make
a difference in shaping the vibrant
community that now exists.
“Working with each of you, and
with so many others throughout
Central Florida and our state, has
been the honor and privilege of a lifetime,”
Jacobs said. “May God bless
each of you and all those who stand
in support of Orange County.” ª
HEALTHY
LIVING
From losing weight to looking
younger to feeling fit, there are
many reasons people focus on
their health. Choosing the right
way to maintain a healthy lifestyle
can be a daunting task;
however, Southwest Orlando
Bulletin’s Healthy Living provides
advice from local experts to help
readers achieve and maintain
their varied health goals.
Are You
Too Attached
to Your Cell Phone?
by Diane Robinson, PhD,
Neuropsychologist
Orlando Health
orlandohealthblog.com
More than 75 percent of
Americans own a smartphone, making
these devices an integral part of
our everyday lives. But for many of
us, smartphones have moved from
handy tools to all-consuming toys.
Two questions can determine
which camp you fall into:
1. Do you check your phone every
few minutes for the latest Facebook
updates, tweets, news alerts or texts?
2. Do you spend more time communicating
with people on your
phone than in person?
If the answer is yes to either of
these questions, you may be too attached
to your phone. Relying too
much on digital devices can interfere
with normal one-on-one conversation
and relationship-building.
If your smartphone is taking up too
much space — and time — in your
life, here are some ways to rein
it in.
• Keep your phone out of reach.
When you drive, store your phone in
the glove compartment or put it in your
purse. When you’re at a restaurant or
other social outing, turn your phone off
and put it away.
• Have phone-free zones. Keep
your phone out of the bathroom. In addition
to being excessive, this behavior
also may be unsanitary. Before you go
to bed at night, turn your phone off
and put it away.
• Set designated digital-free times.
Start a no-cell phone rule during certain
times, such as family dinners or
weekend social activities. Shut down
your phone at a certain point each
day during the workweek.
• Enjoy real-world conversations.
When you’re socializing with family or
friends, turn off your phone or at least
put it on vibrate. Don’t be that person
who checks their phone while someone
is trying to have a conversation with you.
• Instead of passing away the time
on your phone, try more enriching activities,
such as exercising, seeing new
sights around your town, getting out
and meeting new people, or spending
time with those you care about.
These are all more worthwhile than
being glued to your phone.
Depression & Suicide
by Syed O. Quadri, M.D., Psychiatrist
Psych Pointe of Florida
www.psychpointe.com
407-270-7702
After the recent suicides of Anthony
Bourdain and Kate Spade, we need
to educate and introspect ourselves
to watch out for possible symptoms
of mental illness:
• Inability to sleep, restlessness,
feelings of despair or crying
excessively.
• Feeling down, worthless, hopeless
or helpless most of the time.
Libraries and literacy go hand in
hand, but did you know that libraries
can also build your health literacy?
While reading won’t tone your
body, you can still find resources
and programs that will help teach
you how to obtain and understand
basic health information needed to
make good decisions. According
to ScienceDaily, health literacy can
help you make more informed decisions
that affect your overall health,
such as when making food choices
or communicating with a health
professional.
Libraries work toward achieving
all forms of literacy for adults and
children, but this doesn’t limit you to
just reading. Libraries give you the
opportunity to reach your goals by
enriching your life! Traditionally,
libraries are known as places for
books, but they offer so much more!
Many libraries host events and
classes that provide a chance to
develop a new skill or gain a new
experience.
So the next time you can’t think of
something to do or find yourself looking
for a healthy getaway, consider
Healthy Self-Worth
by Adam Langley, M.D.
Family & Sports Medicine
www.premierfsm.com
Do you love and accept yourself
just as you are? For many of us, it
is difficult to accept our less-attractive
features or character flaws.
Possibly, you have an idea of how
you should appear based on comparisons,
judgements or a “perfect
image.” In our current culture of
social media, superficial comparisons
can lead to feelings of inadequacy,
which can lead to negative
self-talk.
When considering personal health
goals, a vital part of that journey
begins within a person’s heart and
mind. Finding confidence and acceptance
of one’s self-worth as a
human being is crucial to starting
and sustaining any health regimen.
Once our internal perspective is
on solid ground, we can better focus
on our external influences and
goals. There are several avenues
people can take to start the process
of self-acceptance. Obstacles
that can get in the way of selfacceptance
are shame, doubt and
delusions.
Problems are just opportunities.
Before we are able to make progress
discovering the best version of
“us,” we must first look at our imperfections
or problems as opportunities
to become the best versions of
ourselves. How do we do this? First,
we must look at ourselves honestly,
not critically; second, we can accept
that we are human and flawed;
and finally, we must be intentional
and realistic in our steps toward
change.
Throughout our culture and society,
there are continual messages
that convey we are not good
enough, and happiness is just out
of reach. This message is rooted in
toxic shame, and it fuels the confusion
surrounding quick-fix, fad diets
and weight-loss supplements. Toxic
shame prevents us from loving ourselves.
Toxic shame requires identification,
correction, healing and
elimination.
When you find yourself hearing
an inner-voice of judgement, contempt,
self-labeling or comparison,
ask yourself this question: Would
you speak to a child or friend this
way? If not, why are you speaking to
yourself this way?
At this point, I will leave you with
a challenge. Set your timer for 10
minutes. Go into your bathroom with
a mirror. Look into your eyes and relax
into your unconditional positive
regard. Tell yourself you are worthy,
and you are loved. The practice of
positive self-talk allows us to own the
changes we want to see, rather than
letting them control us. I hope you
continue to grow and change on
your path to self-worth.
along with that decline comes a
After menopause, women see a
dramatic rise in the incidences of
heart disease, dementia, osteoporosis
and breast cancer. These diseases
are associated with very high
death rates. Similarly, men, whose
testosterone levels fall every year after
the age of 25, also see similar
increases in age-related diseases.
The secret that so many traditional
doctors either do not know or are
unwilling to accept is that restoring
hormone levels to those that are common
and normal in younger women
and men can promote healthy aging
and reduce death rates.
Many medical journal articles
have correctly condemned the use
of synthetic hormones as dangerous.
However, the literature on the
use of bioidentical hormones has
been conclusive about the fact that
bioidentical hormone therapy is
safe and effective at reducing disease
and improving health and
longevity in those who are properly
treated.
If you are looking to maintain your
health and vitality well into your
senior years, bioidentical hormone
therapy is an essential treatment that
will help you do so. It may also help
you have a little more intimate “fun”
along the way.
Everybody’s talking about probiotics
and the importance of a healthy
gut. But what many people don’t
grasp is how important your GI
health is to your overall health. To
put it simply, with gut health, you are
what you eat.
High-fat diets, junk food, smoking
and drinking all negatively affect
your colon, stomach, liver and even
gall bladder. High-fiber, low-fat, low
cholesterol, healthy diets keep your
body’s GI tract in optimal condition
and promote good health.
Perhaps it’s the food or the risk
factors, but officials at the American
Cancer Society recently lowered the
screening age for colonoscopies.
They now recommend people begin
testing at age 45, earlier if exhibiting
symptoms or there’s a family history
of colon cancer.
Screening saves lives, so why
are so many people still scared
about a colonoscopy? Science and
technology have made it easier
than ever to get screened. From
the prep to the procedure, a colonoscopy
is a simple, outpatient
procedure.
If you’re 45 or older and need to
schedule a colonoscopy or if you
have issues affecting your esophagus,
liver, stomach or colon, contact
a gastroenterologist to schedule an
appointment.
Laser vaginal rejuvenation is a
Childbirth, menopause, certain
skin conditions like vulvar dystrophy
and lichen sclerosis, cancer treatment
and aging can cause thinning of the
vagina, called vaginal atrophy, or vulvovaginal
atrophy (involving the vulva
to vaginal dryness, painful sex called
dyspareunia, vaginal irritation, vaginal
Laser treatment of the pelvic tissue
is one type of labiaplasty treatment
that can lead to skin rejuvenation of
the vagina, as well as the vulva. For
women with vaginal laxity (looseness
laser rejuvenation can improve vaginal
Overcoming dental phobia is
the collective responsibility of the
patient, the patient’s family and the
dentist. Dental phobia is mainly to
blame for the alarming rise in the
number of people with poor dental
health. It has been found that
up to 40 million Americans refuse
to visit the dentist for fear of pain,
and they are experiencing dental
problems in various forms and
severity.
The causes of dental fear can
range from a traumatic experience
to a co-occurring psychological
disorder like anxiety or depression.
To respond to this all-too-real
problem, dentists have become
aware that their practices must
continue to evolve, and that new
methods and equipment need to
be adopted to convince the fearing
populace, especially children, that
dentistry today isn’t like the dentistry
of old.
Dentists can also put patients
at ease by having state-of-the-art
equipment designed to minimize
pain and the chances of a procedure
report 100 million Americans are
living with diabetes mellitus or
have prediabetes. Type 2 diabetes
often happens as we age and
is associated with other chronic
illnesses such as heart disease,
kidney problems, nerve damage,
sexual dysfunction and eye
problems.
If diabetes runs in your family, if
your waist is more than 35 inches for
females and 40 inches for males, or
if you have symptoms like fatigue,
frequent urination, unexplained
weight loss, blurry vision or excessive
thirst, an easy blood test can
determine if you are prediabetic or
diabetic. If your doctor determines
you are at risk for diabetes, he or
she may discuss easy treatment options
such as diet, weight loss and
exercise.
Early detection and treatment
are necessary in alleviating
other chronic complications
that occur in people who have
diabetes. Talk to your health care
professional about your risk, so
you can make healthy lifestyle
Preventing
Fall Risks for Seniors
by James Pasquinelli, Owner
Home Care Assistance
www.homecareassistanceorlando.com
407-232-7155
A senior’s home can present many
risks. There should be plenty of light
in every room. Motion-activated or
timer lights can be helpful as days get
shorter. Bathroom safety can be improved
by having grab bars installed
in the tub or shower and by the toilet.
Nonslip strips and a bath bench in
the tub or shower and a raised toilet
seat are valuable. Kitchen countertops
should be kept glare-free. Rugs
should be tacked down or secured
with nonskid pads. Rugs with highly
contrasting dark and light patterns
can interfere with a senior’s depth
perception and should be avoided
or replaced. Reduce glare with only
no-wax cleaners on floors. Firmly
secured handrails are a necessity
on both sides of stairways and outside
steps. Steps should also have
nonskid treads. Furniture should
not block walking areas. Make
sure all electrical cords are out of
the way.
Hiring an in-home caregiver can
also help prevent falls, especially
if a senior is living alone at home.
Supervision is especially important
for older people with dementia that
makes them get up and wander at
night.
Getting Children
to Eat Healthy
by Bindu Parekattil, M.D., FAAP
www.ocoeekidsdocs.com
407-395-2037
Almost all parents admonish children
to “Eat your vegetables,” but
how do we get our children to eat
those vegetables?
As a physician, I ask kids to follow
the two veggie/two fruit rule. At
lunch and dinner, have a vegetable.
Ask them to eat the vegetable first
and then “enjoy” the rest of their
meal. It is much harder to eat things

you don’t like once you are full. After
a month, it should become more of
a habit and less of a fight. It also
helps to get children involved in food
preparation. It’s a great way to have
family time and gives kids a greater
appreciation for what they are eating.
Letting them pick out vegetables
and prepare them makes it more palatable
and interesting.
Decrease their sugar intake. Keep
sodas, sports drinks and desserts out
of the house to prevent temptations.
There are a lot of packaged snacks
targeting children — they are easy
to grab but are often not healthy.
Choose other options such as an apple,
carrot sticks, oranges, nuts, berries
or cheese. Think about replacing
those juice boxes in the lunchbox
with water. Water is always the best
choice.
It is important to establish healthy
eating habits early and to continue
to reinforce those habits throughout
childhood and adolescence.
Whether you’re a weekend warrior,
mom or entrepreneur, your
body has to keep up with your lifestyle.
But you’ve got to take care of
it to do more. When you put in the
hard work, your body works hard
for you. Massage is just one way
to help ready your body to take on
more.
An occasional massage leaves
you feeling great, but regular massages
can do so much more. The
work a massage therapist does in
each session builds on itself, helping
your body maintain a relaxed state
and your muscles to remain loose,
even during times of physical and
mental stress.
There’s no mistaking it. You ask a
lot of your body to be at your best,
and taking care of your body helps
keep you there. But you’ve got to
make it a regular thing, and that’s
what massage therapists are there
to do.
More than ever, men are seeking
skin treatments that can help them
look younger, more relaxed and less
tired, especially when treating the
under-eye area. For most men, it’s
not about looking younger, it’s about
looking well-rested.
Botox Cosmetic tops the list of
male cosmetic procedures, but the
latest revolutionary treatment is
platelet-rich plasma. PRP, also known
as the Vampire Facial, is being used
in many aspects of medicine, including
skin rejuvenation, thinning/
balding hair, sexual rejuvenation,
joints, urology, gastrointestinal and
dentistry. PRP is a great choice for
rejuvenating the skin in men, because
there is no downtime with this
procedure. PRP is all-natural, using
the patient’s own serum so there is
no risk for side effects. The improvement
in the skin tone and wrinkles
is gradual over a few weeks, and
males love the fact that they look
younger, rested and refreshed. Focus
can be placed on the under-eye
area and crow’s-feet region, which
helps clients look rested instead of
exhausted for Friday’s happy hour.
PRP for hair loss helps to regrow hair
and slow the progression of hair
loss. There is a lot of success with
this nonsurgical one-hour procedure,
and it is currently undergoing clinical
trials.
this the day you reconnect with a
healthier, simpler lifestyle. It’s easier
than you think, more affordable
than the way you are already living,
and beneficial in ways you will
see both immediately and for years
to come.
Choose a spa that is helping
people reconnect with a healthier
lifestyle through the use of products
and tools such as doTerra medicinalgrade
essential oils and supplements,
Zyto Balance bioscan software, ionizing
foot detox baths, and a Bemer
circulation mat and vibrating machine.
We are all exposed to negative
impacts on our bodies within
our deficient diets and toxic environments.
These tools assist the body to
rapidly cleanse and detoxify while
building strength, lasting health and
vitality.
An accurate Zyto Balance bioscan
report will show what deficiencies
and/or levels of toxicity are in
each of the 172 vital body parts.
Essential oils will deliver an immediate
shift on those levels and
leave you feeling better than you
have in years. Empower yourself
in the knowledge of better selfcare
through the support of using a
completely natural approach. ª
Where Members of All Ages
Get Healthy Together
It’s not a gym; it’s a place where
you and your family can start your
new path toward health.
With four locations serving the
Central Florida area, Fitness CF
offers members the latest in fitness
equipment; certified personal trainers;
group exercise and spinning
classes; extensive, supervised child
care areas; and amenities that make
your workout experience even more
enjoyable.
The experience begins as you are
greeted walking in and immediately
notice how clean the facilities are.
Fitness CF recognizes that a full
health experience includes a healthy
environment, and the staff takes
great pride in providing the cleanest,
healthiest, most comfortable and
up-to-date facilities for its members,
including providing Air Oasis air
purifiers.
Fitness CF ownership is local, and
owners are consistently in the gyms,
seeking member input and ensuring
they are always delivering the bestequipped,
clean, family-friendly fitness
experience. Surveys are sent to
members regularly for facility feedback,
and owner Pleasant Lewis
even has his personal email posted
in the facilities, so members can
contact him.
Variety of Amenities
“Everyone who is coming into
Fitness CF is trying to do something
different, whether it is training, losing
weight or rehab from an injury, and
it’s our job to find out what it is to help
them,” says Susan Adams, the facility’s
area director. “We offer options
for every fitness level, from beginning
exercisers to elite athletes. Our team
can assist with a low-impact workout
designed specifically for seniors or
demonstrate the right techniques for
a high-intensity workout.”
With locations in St. Cloud, Mount
Dora, Clermont and Dr. Phillips, all
ages are welcome to come through
Fitness CF’s doors for any reason
and find staff members there to
help. Besides the latest in exercise
equipment, members can also enjoy
watching a movie while working out
in the cardio theater, taking part in
group fitness classes, or having private
or small group training with the
facility’s personal trainers.
Other amenities include Hydro-
Massage sessions, on-site tanning,
infrared saunas, pro shops and
smoothie bars, all to enhance members’
experience. Each location also
has women’s only workout areas
and on-site child care that has an
expansive play area/kiddie’s gym
that is supervised by backgroundchecked,
CPR-certified employees
and that has live cameras, so you
can check on your children while
exercising.
The gym experience is no longer
all about lifting weights. Fitness
CF has introduced new functional
training areas and innovative new
equipment, like Keiser Pneumatic
Technology and Fit3D, a 3D body
scan that shows, as Susan quotes,
“every bump and lump in your
body.”
This scan helps target troublesome
areas of your body where you and/
or your personal trainer can help
build through training. “It’s a great
PROMOTIONAL FEATURE
tool, especially if you are trying to
achieve weight loss or reach some
athletic goal. Not many facilities
carry these in Central Florida, and
we have these scans at all four of our
facilities,” says Susan.
It’s the People
It’s not about just getting people in
and out but developing relationships
with the members to where they become
a part of the Fitness CF family.
Unlike many other health clubs,
Fitness CF strives to have members
actually use their memberships.
People is what first drew Susan
to the company to begin with. She
started in community outreach and
advertising and moved up during
the past 12 years into corporate
membership, management improvement
and to her current position of
area director. Now she is continuing
the family ideal by hiring diverse
employees and welcoming
tonyrappa@capturevideo-photo.com
members of all ages, from children to
senior citizens in the Silver Sneakers
program.
“I like, more than anything, the
people we have at Fitness CF,” she
said. “For me, it’s the interactions
with the staff and the members. It’s
giving people the opportunity to
live a healthier, more active life for
around $1 per day.”
Besides their most recent remodel
at the Dr. Phillips location, which has
been proudly serving the Dr. Phillips
area for more than 15 years, what’s
ahead for Fitness CF is continuing
to help Central Florida get healthy
and make lifestyle changes in a
family-oriented atmosphere.
“The public is becoming more
educated, so it is a great time in fitness,”
Susan said. “People are caring
about the longevity of their lives
and the future of their children, and
it is neat to watch.”
Fixed indexed annuities may not be suitable for all. To help determine if an annuity meets your unique financial situation and liquidity needs, consult a
licensed insurance agent. In addition, please thoroughly review all marketing materials, specimen contracts and riders, buyer’s guides, and forms
related to the annuity for costs and important details. Insurance agents do not give investment, legal, or tax advice. Annuities held within qualified
plans do not provide any additional tax benefits. Withdrawals may be subject to income tax, and a 10% federal income tax penalty may apply to
withdrawals taken before age 59½. Additionally, surrender charges and a market value adjustment may apply if you withdraw more than the
penalty-free amount in a year. Fixed indexed annuities guarantee a minimum interest rate on all or a percentage of each contribution over the life of
your contract, less any withdrawals and/or deductions and early surrender charges. Guarantees are based on the claims-paying ability of the insurer.
