sled dogs for traditional hunting in
Thule and East Greenland; dogs are
used to transport fish in Uummannaq
and Disko Bay, as a hobby and increasingly
as a tourist attraction at a time
when the quiet, secluded wilderness is
at a premium in an industrialised world.

Thanks to cheap fish waste and imported
dog food, many mushers can
now own many more dogs than ever
before; dog teams of up to 14-16 dogs
are not unusual. The mushers are not
as conservative as they used to be
either. Sled models and hitching methods
are exchanged without difficulty thanks
to the increasing domestic passenger
traffic in this country.
