When will enrolment take place?
On your "Zulassungsbescheid" you will find the exact dates on which you
can enrol.
What is the "Rückmeldung"?
Enrolment at German universities is valid for one semester only. Each
semester you will have to re-register ("rückmelden"). Students who fail to
register face losing their student status.
When you re-register, you must pay the student service fee (currently 127
Euro) via bank transfer. The student service fee includes the
administration fee and the bus ticket. How much and to which account
you must transfer the money is stated on the back side of your student
identity card (that you receive upon enrolment).
Once you have remitted the money, you will receive your student identity
card for the next semester, which will be sent by the Registrar’s Office to
you by mail. With it, you are officially re-registered.
Do I have to pay tuition?
In principle, enrolled PhD students do not have to pay tuition up to and
including the sixth semester. The student service fee (currently 127 Euro)
still must be paid.
Questions Concerning Enrolment
Although PhD students are not required to enrol, we strongly recommend
that you do. As a PhD student you can be enrolled for a maximum of 3
years. Please refer to the "Studentenkanzlei" (Admissions Office) in the
"Verwaltungsgebäude":
