Private Health Insurance
PhD students who do not have a job or earn less than 400 Euro per
month and do not come from a country with a social insurance
agreement have to obtain private insurance which is fitted to their needs.
There are special offers for international students. You can obtain
information on these at the International Office (Frau Wunderlich, Frau
Morgenstern).
Important: If you have private health insurance, you still must go to a
statutory health insurance agency with your confirmation of insurance
before enrolment and confirm that you do not require statutory health
insurance. You must bring this confirmation to the Registrar’s office upon
enrolment.
What do you have to take with you?
a) Students from countries that have a social insurance agreement
with Germany should bring their European Health Insurance Card
(EHIC) from their insurance agency and present it to a public health
insurance agency in Regensburg.
All other students must obtain health insurance in Germany. To do
this you will first need to open a bank account in Germany because you
need a "Girokonto" (current account) from which the insurance fees will
be withdrawn (see chapter 4).
The insurance agency will give you a proof of insurance form. Please hand
this to the registrar upon enrolling. This will be signed and sent back to
the insurance company.
When taking out private health insurance, please use the information you
receive from Ms. Morgenstern or Ms. Wunderlich for guidance.
