Banks, including ‚Sparkassen’ and the ‚Postbank’ offer essentially the<br />
same services but the fees they charge can vary. The Privat-Girokonto of<br />
the Postbank is often cheaper than accounts in other banks or<br />
‘Sparkassen’. However, in the other banks your may receive more help<br />
with your banking questions. Postbank branches with complete banking<br />
services can be found in every Post Office.<br />
International students wanting to open a bank account need their<br />
passport. At some banks students do not need to pay bank fees,<br />
therefore, you should make certain you have your student ID when<br />
opening an account.<br />
Where can you learn German?<br />
Students with no or only basic German knowledge<br />
The AAA is intent on offering German language courses for<br />
beginners for PhD students and guest researchers. Please ask the<br />
tutor for international PhD students (tutor.phd@uni-regensburg.de).<br />

Language Requirements<br />
Students with intermediate or advanced language skills<br />
The University of <strong>Regensburg</strong> offers German language courses at the<br />
Intermediate and Advanced levels. If you have already passed the<br />
DSH Exam and would like to further develop your German language<br />
skills, you may take part in classes at the Advanced level. The courses<br />
offered take place during the day.<br />
If you do not need to take the DSH Exam because you are writing<br />
your dissertation in English or because you are doing research in<br />
<strong>Regensburg</strong> for a limited period—and therefore do not have to fulfil<br />
language requirements—you may still take part in German as a<br />
