WALL PL ATE “ BIRD OF PAR AD ISE IN FO LIAGE”
Like many of his contemporaries, Willy Münch-Khe (1885-1970) was in search of
new values for a new age, to which end he opted to shed outdated cultural ballast
by easing the MEISSEN ® Manufactory into the new world of art nouveau. Equally
adept as a modeller and graphic artist, Willy Münch-Khe devised a series of entertaining
characters such as Till Eulenspiegel, Archivist Lindhorst and Peter Schlemihl. Many
of his fanciful graphic works, often featuring brightly coloured “wonder birds”, or
birds of paradise, are still in our archives. Our Limited Edition Art Workss provide
an opportunity to commemorate his work in a fitting manner. The artist consciously
designed this showpiece wall plate (1912) as a randomly paintable surface. Subtle
splashes of colour and gilding have now been added to the cobalt decoration to produce
yet another engaging work of art in our Münch-Khe series.
