1947 the monarchy was abolished and the country was<br />
renamed the People’s republic of romania. In the period<br />
that followed, communist structures were set up.<br />
after the collapse of the Soviet Union, democratic processes<br />
were instituted following a revolution. romania<br />
has been a member of the european Union since 2007.<br />

romania lies on the shores of the Black Sea. Its 245 kilometres of coastline are<br />
dotted with seaside resorts on sandy beaches, but mass tourism has not yet taken<br />
hold here. yet romania offers great rewards to those who do visit the country:<br />
limestone caves in the apuseni Mountains, lowland riparian forests along the<br />
Danube, scenic peaks in the Carpathians and somnolent farming villages in the<br />
transylvanian hill Country. transylvania is especially attractive. the region is encircled<br />
by the Carpathians and is also known as the land of the Seven Castles. the<br />
5,600 square kilometres occupied by the Danube delta represent an impressive<br />
area of ecological importance. It is the largest wetland region in europe and includes<br />
a maze of reed islands, inland lakes, lagoons, channels and marshes that<br />
hosts more than 300 bird types.<br />

after the warsaw Pact was dissolved, romania’s economy suffered heavy losses. a<br />
moderate revival was recorded in the late 1990s, but it was not sustained. today,<br />

about a quarter of the country’s population lives below the poverty line. But longterm<br />
forecasts are encouraging, particularly because of the fertility of the land.<br />
romania is also rich in natural resources, including oil, natural gas, coal, iron ore,<br />
silver, gold and uranium. one third of the workforce is rooted in the agricultural<br />
sector, the most important industrial sectors are machine building, petrochemicals,<br />
metallurgy, chemical, textile production and food processing. romania’s major<br />
exports are textiles, metals, machinery and transport vehicles.<br />

hanSa-FleX has operated a foreign subsidiary in romania since 1997. the organisation<br />
now consists of seven branches. In the land of bears and wolves, Managing<br />
Director nicolae tasu and his 23 employees serve the needs of about 2,000 customers<br />
in a wide variety of industries. For example, hydraulics by hanSa-FleX is<br />
used in romania in agriculture, the construction industry and shipbuilding. over<br />
the last 16 years, thanks to the commitment of our colleagues in the country,<br />
