2005 will see many changes in
the production plant of POLYEC
COMPOSITES ITALIA, these are
all part of a project with the target
to enable the production of
larger parts and to improve capacity
and efficiency by introducing
further automation, changing layout
in many processes and also
by the acquisition of new equipment.
The impressive vertical hydraulic
press of POLYTEC COMPOSITES
ITALIA is designed to mould the
future SMC roof for Iveco “Stralis”:
3000 tons clamping force,
extra large plates that allow to
use moulds up to 3000 x 3400
mm, state of the art levelling system,
max. closing speed 600 mm
per second and a day light opening
from min. 1150 mm to max.
3150 mm which makes this press
the biggest in Europe.
The picture of the SMC press
shows the machine in the test
phase at the supplier TERENZIO.
This SMC press will be assembled
in August at POLYTEC
COMPOSITES ITALIA and will be
ready for production in September
this year.
The automation of processes will
be also improved in many areas,
from moulding to painting, introducing
new robots, updating the
current ones or modifying the
lay-out.
Two robots are now able to process
SMC parts and carry out milling
operations much more efficiently
compared to the former
systems.
The ABB Robot pictures 1 and 2
show the discharging and milling
with three different tools of the
IVECO SMC entry steps for the
cabin, which are produced at
more than 100 sets per day.
In the next months two further
robots will work to process the
side SMC parts for the current
IVECO truck and also to remove
the new high SMC “Stralis” roof
from the new 3000 tons press.
Based on the use of these robots,
which are able to consistently
perform many different operations,
POLYTEC COMPOSITES
ITALIA has the chance now to
modify also the lay-out, adding
some space and improving the
access to the warehouse.
This project will also include the
painting lines where two robots
are now running full time and the
third will be in operation within
the next months for the roof painting
line.
Innovation means also for POLY-
TEC COMPOSITES ITALIA a new
painting system in accordance to
the latest environmental rules by
using water based painting material,
which has been introduced
on DAIMLER CHRYSLER bumpers
and fenders for the „Atego“
and in September it will also be
used on IVECO SMC side parts.
