The <strong>Heinrich</strong>-<strong>Hammer</strong> Postgraduate Dental Education <strong>Institut</strong>e of <strong>Schleswig</strong> <strong>Holstein</strong><br />
(HHI) is offering a curriculum in implant dentistry in collaboration with the Department<br />
of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Christian-Albrecht University (CAU) and the<br />
Dental Chamber of <strong>Schleswig</strong>-<strong>Holstein</strong> (ZÄK-SH) according to the standards and<br />
regulations of the German Implant Association (DGI).<br />
Up to now more than 3000 dentists in Europe have been educated by the postgraduate<br />
training program of the DGI. The course will be held in English in Kiel at the <strong>Heinrich</strong>-<br />
<strong>Hammer</strong> Postgraduate Education <strong>Institut</strong>e and at the Dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery<br />
at the University Hospital of <strong>Schleswig</strong>-<strong>Holstein</strong>. Prof. Dr. Dr. Jörg Wiltfang (Univ.<br />
of Kiel), Prof. Dr. Erik Hjørting-Hansen (Univ. of Copenhagen) and Prof. Dr. Dr. Franz<br />
Härle (HHI) are responsible for the scientific management and Dr. Eleonore Behrens, is<br />
responsible for running the course. The modules will be presented by a faculty of internationally<br />
acknowledged experts from clinics and private offices, who will familiarize the<br />
colleagues with ways of integrating implant dentistry into their own offices.<br />

The Curriculum is independent of commercial interests. However, it is intended to<br />
provide a platform to present the current implant systems of the most important implant<br />
manufacturers. The Curriculum is scheduled for approximately one year and<br />
comprises 9 two-day week-end modules with a total of roughly 150 hours of lectures<br />
and hands-on work. The objective is to give participants an overview of the entire field<br />
of endosseous dental implant treatment. Groups of 20 students are offered a mix<br />
of theory and practice, live surgery or video demonstrations and hands-on training<br />
during each of the weekend modules held on Fridays and Saturdays. The program is<br />
completed by a two days visiting program in the dental offices or clinics of the faculty<br />
members and a supervised implant operation performed by the participant.<br />
