Dear Readers,
Sehr geehrte Leserin, sehr geehrter Leser,
One permanent feature of our internal memos is the phrase of the
month which changes on a regular basis. This saying is designed to
stimulate and give cause for reflection. This month’s motto is: “It is not
little time that we have, but much time that we do not make use of.“ It
is attributed to the Roman poet and philosopher Seneca. What the poet
wanted to say was: “We waste time!“
Every company, including our own, does its utmost not to waste time.
As the saying goes, time is money, and no customer is prepared to pay
us for time wasted. Each and every member of staff at
HANNING & KAHL is aware of this and does everything he/she
can to make sure that the cost effectiveness of all our products
and services is guaranteed.
will uns kein Kunde bezahlen. Allen MitarbeiterInnen bei
HANNING & KAHL ist das bewußt und alle bemühen sich darum,
daß die Preise für unsere Produkte und Dienstleistungen einen realen
Gegenwert darstellen.
INNOVATIONEN UND TRENDS / INNOVATIONS AND TRENDS
Ein Notlösegerät für alle Fälle
An auxiliary release device you can count on
Andreas Hahne.
Fehlbedienungen,
Druckauf- und -abbau wurde nicht mit demselben
Gerät vorgenommem, führten zu überfüllten bzw. entleerten
Tanks und zu Störungen des Notlösesystems.
Wir sind heute in der Lage diese
verschiedenen Geräte durch ein
einziges zu ersetzen. Auf der
Basis des bekannten Kompakthydrogerätes
der Baureihe K100
wurde das Notlösehydrogerät
HZY-K100-NL/HP mit integrierter
Handpumpe entwickelt.
Mit diesem Gerät ist es möglich,
das gesamte Bremssystem
elektrohydraulisch oder, bei Ausfall
der Bordspannung, manuell
notzulösen. Neben den bewährten
Hydraulikkomponenten der
K100 Baureihe wird eine neuartige
Kolbenpumpe in kompakter
Ventilbauweise eingesetzt, welche
seitlich in den zentralen
Hydraulikblock montiert ist.
Mit dem von außen zugänglichen
Kugelhahn kann der manuell
erzeugte Notlösedruck wieder
abgelassen werden. Zwei eingebaute
Sicherheitsventile schützen
in beiden Druckerzeugungskreisen
vor zu hohem Druck.
Anhand des in der Haube eingebauten
Manometers kann der
aktuelle Notlösedruck abgelesen
werden. Bei elektrohydraulischer
Notlösung wird der Motor durch
den integrierten Druckschalter,
bei Erreichen des erforderlichen
Druckes, abgeschaltet. Das eingebaute
2/2 Wege-Magnetventil
ermöglicht das ferngesteuerte,
einstufige Einbremsen des notgelösten
Bremssystems. Das nutzbare
Tankvolumen von ca. zwei
Litern ist ausreichend, um sämtliche
Federspeicher eines Bremssystems
notzulösen. Die geringen
Geräuschemissionen sowie die
äußerst kompakten Abmaße ermöglichen
es, dieses Notlösehydrogerät
in jeden Fahrerstand
einzubauen.
Andreas Hahne. In the past, it was not uncommon for auxiliary
release devices in trams to be equipped with several pressure
generators: there was one manual pump in every driver’s cab
and a hydraulic unit centrally located underneath the car body.
As a rule, the hydraulic unit was used as an auxiliary device,
the manual pump was only deployed whenever the on-board
voltage failed. The idea behind this arrangement was to
make the auxiliary release of the brake system as easy and
convenient as possible in the most possible cases. Pressure was
built up and drained off with two separate units, and if these
units were not operated correctly, this could lead to either
overflowing or empty tanks which in turn caused the auxiliary
release system to malfunction.
Today, we are able to replace
these multiple units with one single
device. The new HZY-K100-
NL/HP auxiliary release device
with an integrated hand pump
was developed on the basis of
the already familiar compact
hydraulic unit of the K100 series.
With the aid of this unit it is
possible to release the entire
braking system either electrohydraulically
or manually in the
case of a power failure on board.
Apart from the proven hydraulic
components of the K100 series,
a new piston pump in compact
cartridge valve design has been
The position
switch monitors
the
correct position
of the ball
valve.
deployed, which is mounted on
the side inside the hydraulic block.
It is possible to drain off the
auxiliary release pressure which
has been generated manually
again by means of a ball valve
which can be accessed from the
outside. Two safety valves have
been built in to protect the
two pressure-generation circuits
against excessive pressure.
The auxiliary release pressure
being applied at any particular
time can be read from
a manometer which is installed in
the hood. In the case of electrohydraulic
auxiliary release, the
integrated pressure switch
switches the motor off whenever
the necessary pressure is
reached. The built-in 2/2 way
solenoid valve makes it possible
to “brake“ again in a single step
by remote control after the brake
system has been released.
The tank has a capacity of ca. two
litres and this is sufficient to
release all the actuators of
a brake system in an emergency.
This auxiliary release device has
low noise emissions and
extremely compact dimensions
which means that it can be
installed in every driver’s cab.
Electro-hydraulic or manual
release in one unit: the auxiliary
release device you really can
count on!
VOR ORT / ON THE SPOT
Moderne Weichensteuerungen in Gent
Modern point controllers in Ghent
Joachim Pässler. Heute verfügt Gent über ein gut verzweigtes
Straßenbahnnetz, das durch dicht besiedelte Wohngebiete
und auch durch historische Viertel verläuft. Das bestehende
Streckennetz wird kontinuierlich gepflegt, ausgebaut und
modernisiert.
Zu den Modernisierungsmaßnahmen zählt auch der
Einsatz moderner, mikroprozessorbasierter Steuerungen von
HANNING & KAHL (belgische Vertretung: Buhlmann, Brüssel).
Straßenbahnen gehören seit langem
zum täglichen Bild vieler
belgischer Städte, so auch in
Gent. Dieses Erscheinungsbild
wußte man gut zu pflegen,
weshalb neben den neuen Niederflur-Fahrzeugen
auch restaurierte
Altfahrzeuge ihre Runden
ziehen.
Zur Zeit verfügt der Verkehrsbetrieb
über eine Streckenlänge
von 32,5 km doppelgleisigen
Ausbaus mit einer Spurweite von
1000 mm. 23 elektrisch betätigte
Weichen sind im Betrieb.
In Gent verkehren 54 Straßenbahnen
des Typs PCC, von denen
inzwischen 2 Stück modernisiert
wurden und 2 weitere modernisiert
werden.
Von den modernen Niederflurfahrzeugen,
den Hermelijn, laufen
zur Zeit 6 Stück, 14 weitere
wurden bestellt und bei der
großen Akzeptanz durch die Bevölkerung
sollen weitere Bestellungen
folgen.
Darüberhinaus verfügt der Verkehrsbetrieb
über 273 Busse.
In den letzten Jahren wurde neben
dem Busnetz auch das
Streckennetz der Straßenbahn
kontinuierlich ausgebaut und modernisiert.
Im Vordergrund steht
dabei der Austausch der bisherigen
Relais-Weichensteuerungen
gegen neue Mikroprozessor-
Weichensteuerungen. Bestellt
wurden bisher 16 Steuerungen,
eine 17. Steuerung wird in eine
Bahnübergangssicherung integriert.
Die Weichensteuerungen zeichnen
sich unter anderem durch
einen hohen Standard in der
Sicherheit aus. Hier wurden bewußt
Steuerungen und Fahrzeugdetektionen
der Anforderungsklasse
6 eingesetzt, da die
Sicherheit der Fahrgäste das
höchste zu schützende Gut ist.
Der hohe Arbeitstemperaturbereich
der Steuerung von –25 °C
bis +75 °C garantiert eine einwandfreie
Funktion in allen mitteleuropäischen
Klimazonen.
Ein wesentlicher Aspekt, der für
den Einsatz der HANNING &
KAHL-Mikroprozessortechnik
spricht, ist der einfache Abgleich
der Fahrzeugdetektion, bestehend
aus Gleis- und Ortungskreis.
Ein einfacher Abgleich ist
entscheidend für die Wirtschaftlichkeit
des Systems. Darüberhinaus
ermöglicht die Diagnose
quantifizierbare und reproduzierbare
Abgleichdaten, die für
spätere Überprüfungen herangezogen
werden können.
Nach dem Abgleich übernehmen
die Prozessoren die notwendigen
Temperaturkompensationen und
Überwachungen selbsttätig.
Alle Steuerungen lassen sich mit
Netzwerkkarten und Ereignisspeichern
nachrüsten.
Der Einsatz der neuen Steuerungsgeneration
wird als richtungsweisende
Entscheidung angesehen
und wird bei zukünftigen
Projekten als Referenz dienen.
Joachim Pässler. Today Ghent has a widely branched tram
network which runs through the densely populated residential
areas and the historic parts of the city. The existing line network
is constantly being maintained, extended and modernised.
The modernisation measures include the deployment of modern
microprocessor controllers supplied by HANNING & KAHL.
(Belgian agent : Buhlmann, Brussels).
Trams have been a common sight
on the streets of many Belgian
cities for years now and Ghent is
no exception. They have always
been well preserved and taken
care of with the result that older
restored vehicles are also to be
seen alongside the new low-floor
vehicles.
At the moment the transport
authority has a double-track
network length of 32.5 km with a
1000 mm gauge. There are 23
electrically-operated points in
operation in the network.
There are 54 PCC trams in service
in Ghent, 2 of these have already
been modernised and another 2
are undergoing modernisation.
Six of the low-floor vehicles, type
Hermelijn, are currently in service
and another 14 have been
ordered. Judging by their
popularity with passengers, more
orders will be placed.
The transport authority also has
273 buses.
In recent years both the bus
network and the tram tracks have
been continuously extended and
modernised. One of the main
changes being the replacement of
the old relay point controllers with
new microprocessor point
controllers. Sixteen controllers
have been ordered to date and
the 17th controller is being
integrated into a level crossing.
The point controllers distinguish
themselves among other things by
their high safety standard.
controllers and vehicle detectors
which fulfil safety requirements
category 6 have been deployed.
The safety of passengers is
imperative and therefore controllers
and vehicle detectors
which fulfil safety requirements
category 6 have been deployed.
On account of its wide working
temperature range from –25 °C
to +75°C, the controller functions
perfectly in all Central European
climactic zones.
One good reason for deploying
HANNING & KAHL microprocessor
technology is the
convenient adjustment of vehicle
detection which consists of the
track circuit and the mass
detector. How economic a system
is, depends on how easy it is
to adjust these two components.
In addition, the diagnosis software
supplies adjustment data which
can be quantifed and reproduced
and used for checking purposes
at a later date.
After adjustment, the processors
carry out the necessary
temperature compensation and
monitoring automatically.
It is possible to retrofit all the
controllers with network cards and
event recorders.
The decision to deploy the new
generation of controllers which
will serve as a reference in future
projects is considered to be a
forward-looking move.
Helen Cleary. In the Middle
Ages, Ghent, the capital of the
Belgian province of East Flanders,
was one of the largest and richest
cities north of the Alps, surpassed
only by Paris. Today the city is still
one of the foremost trading and
export centres in the North Sea
region. Yet, at the same time, the
Middle Ages have been preserved
in a unique way, combining
an impressive past with a dynamic
present. The city centre is a showcase
of mediaeval Flemish wealth
and commercial success. No city
in Belgium has so many monuments
under preservation order,
including two mediaeval castles,
five abbeys, dozens of churches
and museums and three beguinages.
The city lies at the confluence of
the Lys and the Scheldt. The rivers
and canals traversing the city divide
it into a patchwork of small
islands, which are connected by a
network of about 200 bridges.
The most impressive of these is St.
Michael’s Bridge which affords a
beautiful view of the famous Gent
towers: St Nicholas’s Church, the
Belfry and St. Bavo’s Cathedral.
The waterways of the city all flow
towards the former port at the
Graslei. The elegant facades of
the Graslei and the Korenlei on
the opposite side of the Lys represent
different architectural styles
from Gothic to baroque to art deco.
Not far away, the Castle of the
Counts arises, once the mediaeval
fortress of the Counts of Flanders.
Don’t forget to visit the
Knights’ Hall. The underfloor heating
may appear rather out of
place, but the dungeon with its
torture chamber and damp walls
is certainly more realistic and less
inviting.
Close to the Castle of the Counts
you find the Patershol, the oldest
quarter of the city, renowned for
its excellent restaurants where you
can still sample wholesome Flemish
cuisine.
Visiting Ghent means strolling
through Europe’s political and
cultural history. It was here that
the Emperor Charles V was born
500 years ago, an event currently
being commemorated all over
Europe. The city of Ghent has also
organised a charming programme
of exhibitions, festivities,
processions and colloquia until
25. June, 2000 under the motto
“Ghent 1500 - 2000” to honour
its most famous citizen.
This year Ghent offers a very special
attraction for horticulturists at
the Floralies Gantoises 2000.
Daring creations from the world’s
most celebrated ornamental artists
are on display in a dazzling
array of colours on an area of
43,000 m 2 , alongside the magnificent
begonias and azaleas of
the region.
In a city where people like to enjoy
a good life there is no shortage
of select shops and exclusive
boutiques, quaint antique shops
and tempting patisseries where
you can pick up a diamond necklace
of rock candy if you cannot
afford the genuine article.
HYS-20x und HYS-30x werden bereits in einer
Vielzahl von Varianten hergestellt und in Drehgestelle verschiedener
Waggonbauer eingebaut. Durch die flexible Konstruktion
nach dem Baukastenprinzip ist eine Anpassung an
die Drehgestellkonstruktion problemlos möglich. Trotz dieser
großen Variantenvielfalt sind die Hauptbaugruppen und Konstruktionsprinzipien
immer gleich und haben sich im Einsatz
bestens bewährt.
Die Bremsbeläge und die Bremsbelagbefestigung
machen hier
keine Ausnahme. Die Vorteile
sind überzeugend:
- einfacher und schneller Austausch
der Beläge
- hohe Sicherheit durch formschlüssige
Verliersicherung
- sichere Aufnahme der Bremskräfte
- unempfindlich bei thermischer
und mechanischer Belastung
- geringer Verschleiß durch definiertes
Lüften von der Bremsscheibe
- kein Schrägverschleiß bei Einrichtungsfahrzeugen,
weil richtungsunabhängige
Belagbefestigung
Bis vor kurzen konnten nicht alle
dieser überzeugenden Argumente
in den Aktiven Sätteln genutzt
werden. Das hat sich aber geändert:
die neue Generation Aktiver
Sättel wurde bei HANNING
& KAHL entwickelt:
Der neue Sattel HYA 26/50 ist
unseren Lesern und Kunden
schon bekannt. Seit der Einführung
wird er bereits in mehreren
Varianten gebaut und kommt
in verschiedenen Fahrzeugen in
deren Lauffahrwerk zum Einsatz.
Und hier die Besonderheit: die
Bremsbeläge sind die gleichen
wie in den Federspeicherbremssätteln,
d.h. in einer Straßenbahn
gibt es nur noch eine Art Bremsbelag.
Dadurch kommen für die Betreiber
der Straßenbahnen weitere
Vorteile der HANNING & KAHL
Bremsausrüstung hinzu:
- geringere Lagerhaltungskosten
- keine Verwechselungsgefahr
- verbesserte Verfügbarkeit.
Eine Entwicklung, die sich
rechnet!
Gabor Josef Agardy. The HANNING & KAHL spring-applied
brake calipers HYS-20x and HYS-30x are already being
produced in a number of different versions and are being
installed in bogies constructed by different car builders. Flexible
construction methods based on the module principle allows
adaptation to the bogie construction without any problems. In
spite of this large multiplicity of versions, the main components
and design principles are always the same and have proven
themselves time and time again in different deployment
instances.
The brake pads and the brake
pad fastening are no exception in
this respect. The advantages are
convincing:
- the pads can be replaced more
easily and faster
- held firmly in place by positive
locking
- safe breaking is guaranteed
- insensitive to thermal and
mechanical strain
- sufficient clearance from brake
disc guarantees low wear
- no one-sided wear in the case
of one-direction vehicles, as the
pads are fastened independently
of the direction
Up to recently, not all of these
convincing arguments could be
applied to the active calipers, but
this has now changed:
HANNING & KAHL has
developed a new generation of
active calipers:
Our readers and customers are
already familiar with the new HYA
26/50 caliper. Since it was
launched it has already been built
in several versions and is
deployed in the trailer bogie of
various vehicles. And what is
special about it: the brake pads
are the same as those in the
spring-applied brake calipers, in
other words, there is only one kind
of brake pad in a tram.
This adds to the advantages the
HANNING & KAHL brake
equipment offers tram operators:
- low storage costs
- no danger of getting the brake
pads mixed up
- enhanced availability.
A truly worthwhile development!
EREIGNISSE/EVENTS
Haltbarkeit und Dauerfestigkeit von Bremsbelägen
Durability and fatigue strength of brake pads
Symposium Delft
Delft Symposium
Gabor Josef Agardy. Zwei oft gestellte Fragen: Welche Lebensdauer
Hier
wird definiert, wann die Reibungsbremse
zum Einsatz
kommt. Die Gesetze der Physik
können leider nicht ignoriert werden:
jeder Reibvorgang ist mit
Verschleiß verbunden. Und das
ist sicherlich der wirkungsvollste
Ansatz, die Lebensdauer der
Beläge im positiven Sinne zu beeinflussen.
Um die Auswirkungen der Bremsmatrix
auf den Verschleiß der
Beläge zu verdeutlichen, können
wir die beiden Extremfälle betrachten.
A) Voll angetriebenes Fahrzeug,
neue Antriebstechnik: die generatorische
Bremse bremst bis kurz
vor Stillstand, unterhalb von ca. 5
km/h übernimmt die Reibungsbremse
als Haltebremse und geht
nach Stillstand in die Feststellbremse
über. Auswirkungen auf
dem Belagverschleiß: nach einem
Jahr Einsatz befindet sich die Belagdicke
noch in der Fertigungstoleranz
der Bremsbeläge,
es ist kaum Verschleiß meßbar.
Der Bremsbelag ist dankbar für
jede Ersatzbremsung oder jede
Gefahrbremsung, wodurch sich
die notwendige Reibkohle bilden
kann. Sonst besteht die Gefahr
der Verglasung der Beläge. Und
damit noch nicht genug: Salzwasser,
Schmutz, Sand, Luftverschmutzung
usw. setzen sich in der
Reibfläche ab, der Bremsbelag
kann seine Eigenschaften verändern.
In manchen Fällen wirkt sich
dieses durch erhöhten Verschleiß
der Scheiben in Form von Riefen,
durch schlechtes Bremsverhalten
oder durch Geräuschbildung aus.
Deswegen hat eine gelegentliche
„Putzbremsung“ sicherlich überwiegend
positive Auswirkungen,
wenn auch dabei etwas Verschleiß
an den Belägen entsteht.
Die Betreiber einer solchen Bahn
sind gut beraten, wenn Sie Ihre
Bremse wieder mal „warm“
bremsen oder die Oberfläche
der Beläge mechanisch säubern.
Trotz des nicht eintretenden Verschleißes
(in einigen Fällen selbst
nach mehreren Jahren) kann eine
Alterung des Belags auftreten.
Gleichzeitig ist die Verbindung
zwischen Belagwerkstoff und
Rückenblech durch die mechanische
Belastung und durch die
Umwelteinflüsse einem Ermüdungsprozeß
ausgesetzt.
Die Entscheidung, alte, wenn
auch noch nicht komplett verschlissene,
Bremsbeläge nach
mehreren Jahren auszutauschen,
bringt keine zusätzlichen Kosten,
sondern ist eher eine kluge Investition.
Z) Die Reibungsbremse ist als Betriebsbremse
eingesetzt, z.B. in
einem Beiwagen.
Hier arbeiten die Beläge und die
Bremsscheiben an der thermischen
Einsatzgrenze. Es entsteht
viel Verschleiß, und es ist damit zu
rechnen, daß nach relativ kurzer
Zeit die Beläge erneuert werden
müssen. Dieses wird relativ unabhängig
sein von der Belagsorte.
Durch den schnellen Verschleißprozeß
können die bei Fall
A erwähnten negativen Erscheinungen
erst gar nicht auftreten.
Die in den HANNING & KAHL
Bremsaktuatoren eingesetzten
Bremsbeläge werden bereits bei
der Auslegung der Bremsmatrix
durch die Bremsberechnung
berücksichtigt, so daß der Betreiber
die nach allen o.g. Gesichtspunkten
bereits optimierte Reibungsbremse
erhält.
Gabor Josef Agardy. How
long is the life span of brake
pads What costs arise as a
result of wear and tear These
are two questions often posed,
yet questions which we at
HANNING & KAHL cannot
answer as clearly and pecisely
as we would like to.
The brake matrix has by far the
greatest influence on the wear
and tear of the brake pads. This
defines when the friction brake
comes into action. However, the
laws of physics cannot be
ignored: each friction procedure
results in wear and tear and this is
probably the stage where most
can be done to have a positive
impact on the life span of the
pads
In order to illustrate the impact of
the brake matrix on the wear and
tear of brake pads, let’s have a
look at the two extreme cases.
A) 100% driven vehicle, new drive
technology: the generator brake
brakes until the vehicle is almost
standing still, at speeds below ca.
5 km/h, the friction brake takes
over as holding brake and when
the vehicle is standing still, it acts
as the park brake. What is the
impact with regard to pad wear:
after one year in deployment, the
pad thickness is still within the
work tolerance of the brake pads,
hardly any wear can be
ascertained. The brake pads are
grateful every time the
mechanical brakes take over or
for every emergency brake
because this gives the necessary
wear layer a chance to form.
There is otherwise a danger that
the pads will glaze. And that’s not
all: salt water, dirt, sand,
emissions etc. deposit themselves
in the friction surface, the
properties of the brake pad can
change. In some cases, this results
in increased disc wear in the form
of chamfering, or in poor braking
performance or in noise
emissions. That’s why an
occasional “good clean brake“ is
sure to have mainly positive
impact even if it does cause some
pad wear. The operators of such
a tram or light rail system are well
advised to “warm up“ the brakes
from time to time or to clean the
surface of the pads mechanically.
Even if wear does not occur (in
some cases not even after several
years), the pad can show
symptoms of ageing. At the same
time, the connection between the
pad material and the support
metal is exposed to a process of
fatigue caused by mechanical
strain and environmental
influences.
The decision to replace old brake
pads after several years even if
they are not completely worn,
does not result in additional costs,
on the contrary, it is a wise
investment.
Z) The friction brake is deployed
as the operating brake, e.g. in a
trailer car.
In this case the pads and the
brake discs are working at the
maximum deployment temperature.
There is a lot of wear and it
can be expected that the pads
will have to be replaced after a
relatively short period of time
relatively regardless of the type of
pad deployed. As they wear out
quickly, the negative symptoms
mentioned under A do not
appear in the first place.
When designing the brake matrix,
the brake pads deployed in the
brake actuators supplied by
HANNING & KAHL are
calculated in a way that
guarantees that the operator gets
the optimum friction brake taking
all the above-mentioned factors
into consideration.
(noch vor dem Bau oder der Inbetriebnahme)
sowie noch fortschrittlichere
Verkehrssimulierungssysteme.
Der Beitrag von Goudappel Coffeng
Bei Omnibus handelt es sich um
ein Model für den Neu- und Umbau
sowie die Kalkulation von
On 29.03.2000 a symposium was held in the auditorium of the
Technical University Delft on “Advanced Simulation and Control
Systems“. More than 240 experts from the Netherlands and
abroad attended this event which was organized by the
Technische Universität Delft, Stichting Postacademisch
Onderwijs Vervoerswetenschappen en Verkeerskunde and
Haagsche Tramweg-Maatschappij.
There have been a lot of changes
in the development and
application of telematics in public
transport during the past years.
New systems have become
available for the design of
timetables and for the monitoring
of travel schedules. These make it
easier to observe the quality of
the traffic processes and to take
effective measures if any
disturbances arise.
The following gave presentations
on their field of study to afford an
insight into this subject and the
state of the art:
TransTec Hannover / Amsterdam
presented the conditions for a
successful control system. Then
Rhein-Consult GmbH, Düsseldorf,
presented the simulation of traffic
stream at the joint-section
RandstadRail and the tram in the
Hague by means of SIMU++.
Holland Railconsult is also active
in the field of “advanced traffic
simulation“. Based on the
principle that optimising traffic
management is essential when
planning public transport systems,
the simulation of traffic processes
(preceding construction or
implementation) is vital and
improving traffic simulation
systems is imperative.
The contribution of Goudappel
Coffeng BV provided more
information about the Omnibus
“Instrument for strategic
policymaking“. Omnibus is a
public transport model for the
constructing, changing and
calculating of public transport
networks. The model gives
detailed information about
occupancy rates, transfer, waiting
periods, vehicles, profits and
costs.
The presentations made by Peek
Traffic, Nederland Haarlem,
Siemens and De Lijn illustrated
different techniques for
positioning systems and dynamic
travellers’ information on buses,
trams, light-rail and subways in
several European cities. The
reliability and simultaneity of the
data transmission as well as the
provision of information for traffic
control, drivers and travellers are
very important.
Symposium members also had
the opportunity to visit the
exhibition stands where products
were displayed which, each in
their own way, contribute to the
control system.
The exhibitors included HTM-
Infra with RAM Mobile Data,
Strukton Railinfra, Isolectra with
display systems for travel
information, NH Nederland
Haarlem with, for instance,
dynamic travel information,
HANNING & KAHL with
microprocessor point controllers
and point setting mechanisms,
especially the new HW 61 series.
All in all, the symposium was a
successful event which was well
attended by all of the main public
transport companies and
colleagues of the branch.
Feldbus ersetzt Kabelsalat
Fieldbus replaces cable salad
Der Einsatz von Feldbus-Systemen in der Automatisierungstechnik
ist mit einer großen Zahl von technischen und ökonomischen
Vorteilen verbunden. Der Feldbus hat praktisch alle
Bereiche der digitalen und analogen Steuerungsperipherie erobert.
Bei der Entwicklung der Feldbus-Systeme ging es
zunächst darum, den Verdrahtungsaufwand zu verringern.
Später kam die vereinfachte System-Diagnose durch intelligente
Feldgeräte hinzu, die Störungen und Fehlermeldungen
schnell und detailliert zur Steuerung übertragen können.
Schließlich wurden die Feldgeräte mit Steuerungsfunktionalität
zur dezentralen Datenvorverarbeitung und für einfache
Regelungsaufgaben ausgestattet – und Feldbusse zur Kommunikation
eingesetzt.
Der Automatisierungsmarkt bietet
für unterschiedliche Anwendungen
eine Vielzahl von von verschiedenen
Feldbus-Systemen.
Die Anwendungsgebiete stellen
verschiedene Anforderungen an
das Bussystem, z. B. hohe Geschwindigkeit,
Störungssicherheit,
einfache Bedienung und Inbetriebnahme
oder niedrige Kosten.
Aus diesen Gründen wurden für
die verschiedenen Einsatzgebiete
unterschiedliche Feldbussysteme
entwickelt, wie z. B.:
– Profibus-DP/FMS
– Interbus, CANopen
– DeviceNet
– ControlNet
– Beckoff Lightbus
– Sercos
– Ethernet TCP/IP, USB, RS485,
RS232
Die meisten am Markt verfügbaren
Feldbusbaugruppen, als Bindeglied
zwischen Steuerung und
Aktorik/Sensorik, sind nur für
einen bestimmten Feldbus ausgelegt.
D. h. beim Wechsel des
Feldbussystems wird die komplette
Baugruppe ausgetauscht. Nicht
so beim Beckhoff Busklemmen System:
die Busklemme ist ein offenes
und feldbus-neutrales Peripheriekonzept,
bestehend aus
elektronischen Reihenklemmen.
Der Kopf einer elektronischen
Reihenklemme ist der Buskoppler
mit der Schnittstelle für den Feldbus.
Intelligente Reihenklemmen
Die Busklemme ist eine Reihenklemme
mit elektronischem „intelligentem“
Innenleben und entspricht
mit einer Breite von 12 mm
einer mechanischen Doppelklemme.
Mit diesen Grundelementen
kann eine Klemmleiste mit Feldbusanschluss
so aufgebaut werden,
dass Signale völlig frei
mischbar mit einer Modularität
von 2- und 4-Kanälen angeordnet
werden, wie man es von der
Reihenklemmtechnik gewohnt ist.
Die feinmodularen Busklemmen
sind gegenüber den am Markt
verfügbaren 8er-, 16er- oder
32er-Klemmenblöcken flexibler
und für kostengünstig individuellere
Lösungen geeignet. In der
Praxis haben die Busklemmen den
Vorteil, dass die Verdrahtung an
der Maschine erfolgt. Nach Bedarf
wirt dort eine Busklemme
aufgesteckt und der Datenaustausch
mit der Steuerung ist unkompliziert
hergestellt.
Anreihbar wie eine Standard-Reihenklemme
schliesst man bei der
elektronischen Version bereits
beim Einsetzen den systeminternen
Bus und die Versorgungsspannung
samt Schutzerde an.
Dabei bleibt jedes Modul einzeln
austauschbar und lässt sich praktisch
an jeder Stelle des Systems
aufsetzen. Die beim Aufbau einer
Klemmleiste benötigten Potentialgruppen
unterstützt das System
durch die völlige Potentialtrennung
der Klemmen untereinander.
Die Einspeisung der Leistungspotentiale
für die E/A-Ebene
können über einfügbare Potentialeinspeisungsklemmen
vorgenommen
werden. Seitlich an
den Klemmen angeordnete Powerkontakte
sorgen für die automatische
Brückung dieser Leistungspotentiale
von Klemme zu
Klemme: Damit entfällt ein kompletter
Arbeitsgang zur Verdrahtung
der E/A-Ebene.
Die Beckhoff Busklemme sorgt
dafür, dass Schaltschränke und
Klemmkästen wirtschaftlicher
gebaut werden. Alle gängigen
Sensoren und Aktoren mit unterschiedlichen
Signalarten können
direkt angeschlossen werden.
The Beckhoff Bus Terminal
ensures that control cabinets and
terminal boxes are constructed
more economically. All of the
usual sensors and actuators with
different types of signal can be
connected directly without other
connection systems.
Signal- und Feldbusunabhängigkeit
in einem System
Das Busklemmen System läßt den
Anschluss von bis zu 64 Klemmen
an einer Station zu. Bei Verwendung
einer digitalen 4-Kanal-
Klemme stehen somit bis zu 256
digitale und 128 analoge Einoder
Ausgänge zur Verfügung.
Mit über 80 unterschiedlichen
Feldbusklemmen können alle
gängigen Sensoren und Aktoren
mit unterschiedlichen Signalarten
direkt, ohne weitere Verbindungstechnik
angeschlossen werden.
Neben den zweikanalig ausgeführten,
digitalen Ein- und Ausgangsklemmen
gibt es analoge
Varianten, für Ströme und Spannungen
in standardisierten Signalpegeln
sowie für PT100 und
Thermoelemente. Über eine
Klemme mit serieller Schnittstelle,
gemäss RS232/RS485 oder 20
mA Current Loop, lassen sich intelligente
Geräte anschliessen
und parametrieren. Aber auch
Varianten für Signalpegel aus der
Winkel- und Wegmessung sind
verfügbar.
The application of fieldbus systems in automation technology is
associated with many technical and economic advantages. The
fieldbus has established itself in almost all sectors of digital and
analogue control peripheral equipment. The first goal in developing
fieldbus systems was a reduction in the amount of wiring.
Simplified system diagnostics, enabled by intelligent field devices
that could send detailed information about malfunctions and
errors quickly to the controller, came later. Finally the field devices
were given controller functionality for distributed data preprocessing
and for simple control tasks – and fieldbusses were
used for communication.
A wide range of different fieldbus
systems for various applications
are available on the automation
market. The conditions of the applications
place different demands
on the bus system, e.g.
high speed, freedom from error,
simple operation and startup or
low cost. For these reasons, differing
fieldbus systems have been
developed for these various application
types, such as:
– Profibus DP/FMS
– Interbus
– CANopen
– DeviceNet
– ControlNet
– Beckhoff Lightbus
– Sercos
– Ethernet TCP/IP, USB, RS485,
RS232
Most of the fieldbus modules
available on the market, which
act as the link between the controller
and the actuators and sensors,
are only designed for one
particular fieldbus. This means
that if the fieldbus system is changed,
the entire module must be
replaced. This is not the case for
the Beckhoff Bus Terminal system:
the Bus Terminal is an open peripheral
design, consisting of stackable
electronic series terminals,
and not restricted to any particular
fieldbus. The head of an electronic
series terminal is the Bus
Coupler with the interface to the
fieldbus.
Intelligent Terminal Blocks
The Beckhoff Bus Terminal is a
terminal block containing its own
electronic “intelligence“, whose 12
mm width corresponds mechanically
to a double terminal. Using
these elements, a terminal row
with a fieldbus connection can be
constructed in such a way that
signals can be mixed quite freely,
with a modularity of 2 and 4
channels, in the way familiar from
terminal block technology. The
fine modularity of Beckhoff Bus
Terminals makes them more flexible
than those terminal blocks
on the market with 8, 16 or 32
channels, and so suitable for more
individual, cost-effective solutions.
In practice, the Bus Terminals have
the advantage that the field devices
can be wired flexibly and
locally, at the machine. A Bus
required, and the data exchange
with the controller is established in
an uncomplicated manner.
Like standard terminal blocks,
they can be assembled into a row,
and the connections for the internal
system bus, electrical supply
and protective earth of the electronic
versions are made as they
are inserted. Thus each module
can be individually exchanged,
and can be used at almost any
location within the system.
The system supports the potential
groups needed for the construction
of a terminal row through
the complete potential isolation of
the terminals from one another.
The power voltage feed for the
I/O level can be made by inserting
potential feed terminals. Power
contacts located at the sides
of the terminals provide the automatic
bridging of these power
voltages from one terminal to the
next: in this way an entire working
process, normally involved in
wiring to the I/O level, is eliminated.
Fieldbus-independent Bus Terminal
from Beckoff – the modular
system for automation
Independence from Signals
and Fieldbusses in one System
The Bus Terminal system allows
up to 64 terminals to be connected
to one station. Using a digital
4-channel terminal, this means
that up to either 256 digital
or 128 analogue inputs or
outputs are available. With more
than 80 different fieldbus terminals,
all common sensors or
actuators with their different types
of signal can be directly connected,
without the need for any
other connecting equipment. In
addition to the twin-channel digital
input and output terminals,
there are analogue versions for
current and voltage with standard
signal levels as well as for PT100
and thermocouples. Intelligent
devices can be connected and
parameterised via a terminal with
an RS232/RS485 or 20 mA current
loop serial interface. Versions
for signal levels derived from
angle an path measurements are
also available.
INTERVIEW
Prüfung von Fahrsignalanlagen nach BoStrab
Inspecting signalling installations in compliance with BoStrab tram regulations
Heinrich Windus. Nach einer
Elektrolehre und Abschluß des
Studiums als Elektroingenieur,
habe ich bei der Bundesbahn die
Ausbildung für den gehobenen
technischen Dienst der Fachrichtung
Signal- und Fernmeldewesen
absolviert. Danach war ich
auf verschiedenen Gebieten der
Planung, Prüfung und Abnahme
von Signalanlagen tätig. Bei einer
Beurlaubung zur Beratung
für die Planung der Metro in Sao
Paulo (Brasilien) hatte ich die ersten
Berührungspunkte mit dem
Nahverkehr. Als Sachverständiger
bei der DB habe ich nebenberuflich
für verschiedene Verkehrsbetriebe
Prüfungen und
Abnahmen für Zugsicherungsund
Signalanlagen nach BO-
Strab ausgeführt.
Heinrich Windus. After an apprenticeship
as an electrician and
studying to be an electrical engineer,
I completed a course of
training with German Rail for an
executive technical position, specialising
in signalling and telecommunications.
After that, I
worked in different areas relating
to the planning, inspection and
acceptance of signalling installations.
While on leave to advise on
the planning of the metro in Sao
Paulo (Brazil), I made my first
contacts with light rail. In my capacity
as an authorised inspector
for the DB, I have carried out examinations
and acceptance tests
for train protection devices and
signalling installations in accordance
with the BOStrab regulations
on the construction and
operation of trams on behalf of
different transport authorities.
TRAM NEWS: Herr Windus,
die Zusammenarbeit bei vielen
Projekten zwischen Ihnen und
HANNING & KAHL besteht
seit mehreren Jahren. Wie lange
sind Sie schon als Sachverständiger
tätig
WINDUS: Seit über 18 Jahren
und zwar für Eisenbahnsignalund
BÜ-Anlagen nach EBO mit
Anerkennung für NE-Bahnen
in verschiedenen Bundesländern.
Seit über 12 Jahren bin ich als
„sachkundige Person“ nach §5
(2) der BOStrab für einige
Technische Aufsichtsbehörden
(TAB) tätig.
TRAM NEWS: Sehr oft herrscht
Unklarheit über die Prüfung
von Fahrsignalanlagen
und Weichensteuerungen.
Wenn wir von „Fahren auf
Sicht“ sprechen, nach welchen
Vorschriften prüfen Sie dann
die Anlagen
WINDUS: Beim „Fahren auf
Sicht“ handelt es sich um
Signalanlagen nach § 21 der
BOStrab. Grundlage der Prüfung
ist die BOStrab und
dazu kommen die VDV-
Schriften z.B. 341, Technische
Sicherung der Bahnübergänge
bei Straßenbahnen; 343,
Weichensteuerungen im Sichtfahrbereich;
344, Fahrsignalanlagen
nach BOStrab
§ 21.
Für die Prüfung ist die VDV-
Schrift 331, Anforderungsklassen
für Signal- und Zugsicherungsanlagen
gemäß BOStrab
ein wichtiger Bestandteil.
TRAM NEWS: Nach welchen
Kriterien wird so eine Prüfung
durchgeführt, und was sind
nach ihrer Meinung die wichtigsten
Punkte
WINDUS: Hier ist die VDV-
Schrift 331 eine wichtige
Grundlage, um die Anforderungsklasse
(AK) festzulegen.
Die Prüfungen für die einzelnen
AK ergeben sich aus der DIN V
19250 „Grundlegende Sicherheitsbetrachtungen
für MSR-
Schutzeinrichtungen“ oder nach
der europäischen Norm IEC 65
(Sec) 123.
TRAM NEWS: Wenn sich unser
Kunde für die Prüfung seiner
Steuerung durch einen
Sachverständigen entscheidet,
welche Vorteile hat dann diese
Prüfung für ihn
WINDUS: Nach § 5 (1) der
BOStrab führt die TAB die erforderlichen
Prüfungen, Zustimmungen
und Abnahmen durch.
Da die TAB oft nicht die Zeit
oder das Personal hat, um diese
Arbeiten zügig durchzuführen,
kann sie sich nach §5 (2)
anderer Personen bzw. Stellen
bedienen.
Für den Kunden ergibt sich der
Vorteil dadurch, daß bei der
Vorlage für den Bau von Betriebsanlagen,
nach § 60, die
TAB schneller den Zustimmungsbescheid
erteilen kann,
wenn sie nicht selbst prüfen
muß.
Dies trifft auch für die Abnahme
nach § 62 zu.
TRAM NEWS: Unsere Kunden
haben in der Regel unterschiedliche
Anlagentypen im
Einsatz. Welche Anlagentypen
können von Ihnen geprüft werden

WINDUS: Hier muß man
zunächst unterscheiden, ob bei
den heute verwendeten Steuerungen,
z.B. SPS oder bei sicheren
Rechnersystemen ein Sicherheitsnachweis
vorliegt.
Da mit diesen Steuerungen
Weichen, Fahrsignalanlagen,
BÜ-Anlagen u.ä. betrieben
werden können, ist eine Prüfung
für den entsprechenden
Einsatz erforderlich unter
Berücksichtigung von Wünschen
und Besonderheiten der
Verkehrsbetriebe.
Für diese Einsatzmöglichkeiten
werden die Anlagen von mir
geprüft.
TRAM NEWS: Teilt sich die
Prüfung durch einen Sachverständigen
in mehrere Phasen
auf und wenn ja, in welche
Phasen
WINDUS: Erforderlich sind 2
Prüfungen: 1. Die Prüfung der
Schaltung, nach § 60 der BO-
Strab, um die Zustimmung zum
Bau der Anlage zu erhalten.
2. Die Abnahme, nach § 62 der
BOStrab, damit die TAB den
Abnahmebescheid und so die
Zustimmung zum Betrieb der
Anlage erteilt.
Im praktischen Prüfverfahren
hat sich eine weitere Prüfung
zwischen diesen beiden Punkten,
die Werksabnahme, ergeben.
Durch die Werksabnahme
kann mit der Simulation der
Außenanlage die Funktionsfähigkeit
der Anlage getestet
und damit die Abnahme vor
Ort vereinfacht werden.
Ferner bietet die Abnahme im
Werk die Möglichkeit, ohne
großen Aufwand die Software
zu prüfen.
TRAM NEWS: Herr Windus,
wir bedanken uns für das Gespräch
und die Informationen.
Die Fragen für die TRAM
NEWS stellte Christian Schmidt,
Leiter Auftragszentrum / Steuerungen,
Geschäftsbereich
Nahverkehr, HANNING &
KAHL.
TRAM NEWS: Mr Windus, you
have worked together with
HANNING & KAHL on many
projects and for several years
now. How long have you been
working as an authorised inspector
WINDUS: I have been inspecting
railway signalling and level
crossings in accordance with the
EBO railway construction and
operating regulations with permission
to inspect secondary railways
in different federal states
for more than 18 years now.
I have been working for more
than 12 years as an “expert“
acc. to §5 (2) of the BOStrab
tram regulations for different
technical supervisory boards
(TAB).
TRAM NEWS: There is often
confusion about what the testing
of signalling installations and
point controllers involves. Whenever
we talk about “Driving at
sight“, what regulations do you
use as the basis for testing the
units
WINDUS: "Driving at sight”
implies signalling installations as
described by § 21 of the BO-
Strab. The examination is based
on the BOStrab and the VDV
guidelines e.g. 341, Technical
safeguarding of level crossings
for trams; 343, Point controllers
in the driving at sight area; 344,
Signalling installations according
to BOStrab § 21.
The VDV guideline 331, Safety
requirement classes for signalling
and train protection devices
as stipulated by BOStrab are
also extremely relevant for the
examination.
TRAM NEWS: What criteria is
such an examination based on
and what are the most important
factors in your opinion
WINDUS: The VDV guideline
331 plays an important role in
determining the required safety
category. Then the DIN V
19250 “Fundamental safety
considerations for protective
process measurement and control
devices“ or the European
standard IEC 65 (Sec) 123 is
used to determine the inspections
necessary to award the
safety category.
TRAM NEWS: If one of our customers
decides to have his controller
tested by an authorised
inspector, what advantages
does he gain from such a test
WINDUS: § 5 (1) of the BO-
Strab stipulates that the necessary
inspections and acceptance
tests be carried out and
certified by the technical supervisory
boards. However, in
many cases, these authorities
have neither the time nor the
staff to carry out such work
quickly and therefore §5 (2) allows
them to engage other
people or institutions to do so.
The customer profits from the
fact that the technical supervisory
board can issue the certificate
of assent faster whenever
they do not have to carry out
the inspections themselves. This
accelerates the whole submission
process prior to the construction
of operating units, as
stipulated by § 60. This also applies
to acceptance according
to § 62.
TRAM NEWS: Our customers
generally have different types
of units in deployment. Which
types of units can you test
WINDUS: First of all, you must
determine whether the controllers
deployed today, e.g. PLC or
failsafe computer-controlled systems
have their own safety certificates.
As these controllers can be deployed
to operate points, signalling
installations and level
crossings etc, the examination
must be made on the basis of
the deployment function required
taking the wishes and particular
requirements of the transport
authorities into consideration.
I test the units for such deployment
possibilities.
TRAM NEWS: Is the examination
that the authorised inspector
carries out divided into
several phases and if yes, what
are these phases
WINDUS: Two examinations
are necessary:
1. The examination of the circuit
stipulated by § 60 of the BO-
Strab, this is necessary in order
to obtain approval to build the
unit.
2. The factory acceptance test
stipulated by § 62 of the BO-
Strab, this must be carried out
before the TAB awards the acceptance
certificate and grants
permission for the operation of
the unit.
In practice, however, a further
examination takes places between
these two items, viz. the
factory acceptance test. By simulating
the external unit, the
factory acceptance test makes it
possible to test the operatability
of the unit which in turn simplifies
the acceptance test on the
location.
The factory acceptance test also
affords an excellent opportunity
to test the software in the
factory without any great effort.
CAR NEWS
High-Performance-Avant
RS4 der Quattro GmbH
The High-Performance-Avant
The RS4 by quattro GmbH
Sigrid Riewe-Scholz. Auf der
Basis des Audi S4 hat die quattro
GmbH den RS4 als das absolute
Top-Modell der A4-Baureihe
konzipiert und in Zusammenarbeit
mit der Audi AG entwickelt.
Unter der Haube des Audi RS4
verrichtet ein V-Sechszylinder mit
2,7 Litern Hubraum, fünf Ventilen
pro Zylinder und Biturbo-Aufladung
den Dienst. Das RS4-Aggregat
entfaltet 280 kW (380 PS)
bei 6.500 Umdrehungen pro Minute.
Das maximale Drehmoment
von 440 Newtonmetern stellt der
V6-Biturbo über einen sehr breiten
Drehzahlbereich, beginnend
ab 2.500/min zur Verfügung.
Für eine ausgiebige Kraftkur
bringt der 2,7 Liter-Sechszylinder
allerbeste Anlagen mit: Fünfventiltechnik,
die zwei je Zylinderbank
separat zugeordneten Turbolader,
die hydraulisch verstellbaren
Einlassnockenwellen, die
Einzelzündspülen oder das moderne
Motormanagement – die
Motronic ME 7 von Bosch mit Ladedruck-,
Klopf- und Abgastemperaturregelung.
Das hohe Drehmoment des V6-
Biturbo setzen das sportlich abgestufte
Sechsgang-Schaltgetriebe
und der permanente Allradantrieb
wirkungsvoll und spurstabil
in Vortrieb und Traktion um.
Den Spurt von null auf 100 km/h
absolviert der RS4 in 4,9 Sekunden.
Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit
beträgt – elektronisch abgeregelt
– 250 km/h.
Den überlegenen Fahrleistungen
entsprechend ist die Bremsanlage
des RS4 komplett neu entwickelt
worden. An Vorder- und Hinterachse
kommen deutlich größer
dimensionierte Bremsscheiben in
Verbundtechnologie zum Einsatz.
Die Parameter des ABS-Systems
und der elektronischen Bremskraftverteilung
wurden gezielt
auf die größer dimensionierte
Bremsanlage neu abgestimmt.
Nicht nur Fahrwerk und 18 Zoll-
Breitreifen im neuen Speichendesign
zeigen den sportiven
Charakter des Avant auf. Die Karosserie
des RS4 hat eine Reihe
spezifischer Veränderungen erfahren
und auf diesem Wege zu
Formen gefunden, die dem High-
Performance-Kombi zu einem
dynamischen Auftritt als Spitzensportler
verhelfen.
Sportlichkeit gepaart mit Individualität
und Exklusivität kennzeichnet
den Innenraum des Audi
RS4. Die aus hochwertigen Materialien
bestehenden einzelnen
Komponenten der Innenausstattung
sind optisch aufeinander
abgestimmt und ergeben ein
stimmiges Gesamtbild, in dem die
Farbe Onyx dominiert.
Neben der Recaro-Sitzanlage
und den Ledersitzbezügen sind
auch die Sitzheizung und das Radio
"concert” mit 170 Watt starkem
Bose-Soundsystem ohne
Aufpreis erhältlich.
Zur Sicherheitsausstattung des
RS4 gehören Fahrer- und Beifahrer-Airbag,
Seiten-Airbags vorne
und das Audi-Kopf-Airbag-
System SIDE-GUARD.
Sigrid Riewe-Scholz. quattro
GmbH has designed the RS4 on
the basis of the Audi S4 Avant as
the supreme model in the A4
series and developed it in
conjunction with the Audi AG.
A 2.7-litre biturbo V6 engine with
five valves per cylinder gets to
work under the hood of the Audi
RS4. The RS4 engine develops a
permanent peak output of 280
kW (380 bhp) at about 6,500
rpm. The V6 biturbo’s peak
torque of 440 Newtonmetres is
available throughout an
extremely wide speed range
starting from 2,5000 rpm.
The Audi six-cylinder engine has
all the trappings of an out-andout
powerhouse: five valves per
cylinder, the two separate
turbochargers on each bank of
cylinders, the hydraulically
adjustable intake camshafts, the
single-spark ignition coils and the
modern engine management
system – the Bosch Motronic ME
7, with boost pressure, knock and
exhaust-gas temperature control.
The six-speed manual gearbox
with ratios made even sportier
especially for the RS4 together
with permanent four-wheel drive,
converts the high torque of the
biturbo V6 into propulsion and
traction effectively and with
excellent directional stability. The
RS4 sprints from 0 – 100 km/h in
4.9 seconds. Its electronically
governed top speed is 250 km/h.
In keeping with this superior
performance data, the RS4’s
brake system has been
completely redeveloped. Much
larger composite-type brake
discs have been fitted on both the
front and rear wheels. The
parameters of the ABS system
and the electronic brake-force
distribution system have been
specifically modified to reflect the
increased dimensions of the brake
components.
The suspension tuning and the
wide 18-inch tyres in new spoke
design are not the only evidence
of this Avant model’s sporting
constitution. The RS4’s body has
undergone a whole range of
specific modifications, resulting in
shapes which give this highperformance
estate car the
dynamic charisma of a top
athlete.
The interior of the Audi RS4 is
characterised by sports appeal
combined with individuality and
exclusivity. The individual interior
equipment features, made from
choice materials, are visually
coordinated to produce a
harmonised overall appearance
in which the colour Onyx
predominates.
In addition to the Recaro seats
and the leather seat upholstery,
heated seats and the “concert“
radio with a 170 Watt Bose sound
system are available at no extra
charge.
The safety equipment of the RS4
includes driver and passenger
airbags, side airbags at the front,
and – optional – Audi’s
SIDEGUARD head airbag
system.
DER EISENBAHNFAN/TRAIN SPOTTER
The National Railway Museum in York
Helen Cleary. Mit einer
großen Anzahl von Rekordbrechern
und bahnbrechenden
Erfindungen ist das National
Railway Museum in
York das größte Eisenbahnmuseum
der Welt. In den
Ausstellungshallen, die eine
enorme Auswahl an Exponaten
und Millionen von Artefakten
beherbergen, wartet
eine wahre Erlebniswelt der
Eisenbahn. 103 Lokomotiven
und 280 Wagen erzählen die
200-jährige Geschichte der
Eisenbahn von Stephenson’s
Rocket über Mallard, mit
201.6 km/h die schnellste
Dampflokomotive der Welt,
bis hin zu dem schnittigen,
stromlinienförmigen Eurostar.
Auf der Besuchergalerie oberhalb
der East Coast Main Line.
Visitors on the viewing balcony
enjoy watching the East Coast
Main Line trains go by.
Die Dauerausstellung „Paläste auf
Rädern“ gibt seltene Einblicke in die
luxuriösen Salons und in die Schlaf-,
Bade- und Speisewagen der englischen
Monarchen seit ungefähr
1840. Bei den Wagen der Königin
Viktoria fehlt allerdings ein Speisewagen,
denn obwohl Ihre Hoheit
sich gerne eine Tasse Tee unterwegs
genehmigte, lehnte sie „Essen auf
Rädern” kategorisch ab.
In der „Working Railway”-Halle
werden viele Aspekte der Sicherheit
auf den Schienen erforscht, von den
Tagen, als die Eisenbahnpolizisten
mit Handsignalen vor Gefahren
warnten, bis zu fortschrittlichen
rechnergesteuerten Kommunikationssystemen.
Dank einer „live link”
zum York Electronic Control Centre
können Besucher ankommende Züge
zuerst am Bildschirm und ein
paar Minuten später von der Besuchergalerie
oberhalb der East Coast
Main Line aus beobachten. Die
Wichtigkeit der Schienensicherheit
und Signalanlagen wird noch durch
eine Ausstellung über Eisenbahnunglücke
hervorgehoben.
Die „Time”-Ausstellung erzählt die
faszinierende Verbindung zwischen
der Einführung der Greenwich Mean
Time als Nationalstandard und
den Fahrplänen der Eisenbahn. Vor
der Einführung der Eisenbahn war
das Reisen noch ein mühseliges und
umständliches Unterfangen, also
spielte es keine Rolle, daß die Uhren
in Städten außerhalb Londons
buchstäblich anders liefen. Jedoch
sobald Bahngeschwindigkeit erreicht
wurde, hielt man eine genormte
Zeit für den reibungslosen
und sicheren Zugverkehr für angebracht.
Also wurden Taschenuhren
an das gesamte Bahnpersonal verteilt.
Sobald der Zug in den Bahnhof
Der Eurostar.
The Eurostar.
einfuhr, gaben die Zugbegleiter die
korrekte Uhrzeit an die Stationsvorsteher
weiter, und diese stellten
dann alle Bahnhofsuhren auf dieselbe
Zeit.
Die Züge waren so pünktlich, daß
man die Uhren danach stellen
konnte!
In dem „Workshop”, in dem die traditionellen
Fertigkeiten der Restaurierung
und Instandhaltung der
herrlichen Fahrzeuge vorgeführt
werden, können die Besucher den
Alltag in einer echten Werkstatt
samt dazugehörigen Geräuschen
und Gerüchen erleben.
Für Modelleisenbahn-Fans ist das
„Warehouse” eine wahre „Aladdins
Höhle”. Hier findet man unter anderem
645 Modelleisenbahnfahrzeuge,
alle von einem einzigen Mann
handgefertigt!
Mit Hilfe von erzählfreudigem Personal
sowie Filmmaterial, interaktiven
Exponaten und Fahrten werden
alle Ausstellungsstücke wirklich lebendig.
Helen Cleary. The National Railway Museum in York is the
largest railway museum in the world, boasting a host of historymakers
and record-breakers. It is home to a wide range of
railway icons and literally millions of artefacts. The vast
collection, including 103 engines and 280 items of rolling stock,
tells the 200-year-old story of the train from Stephenson’s Rocket,
to the Mallard, which holds the incredible steam speed record of
126 mph to this day, to the sleek, streamlined Eurostar.
Permanent displays include “Palaces
on Wheels“. With Royal saloons
dating back to the Victorian era,
visitors have the rare chance to
glimpse inside the sumptuous
bedrooms, bathrooms, dining rooms
and day salons of British monarchs.
Queen Victoria, however, did not
have a dining car because although
she was quite amused by “leaves on
the line“ and allowed afternoon tea
to be brewed en route, she flatly
refused to take “meals on wheels“.
The Working Railway explores many
aspects of railway safety, from the
days when railway policemen
warned of danger using hand
signals, to today’s advanced
computer communications system.
Thanks to a “live link“ to the York
Electronic Control Centre, visitors can
watch for the oncoming trains on the
The “Time“ exhibit tells the
extraordinary story of how
Greenwich Mean Time owes its
existence, as the national system, to
railway timetables. Travelling was a
slow and laborious task prior to the
introduction of the railway, so it did
not matter that other cities kept
slightly different time from London.
But once rail speed was achieved,
standard time was deemed essential
for the smooth and safe running of
trains. This meant each and every
guard had to be issued with a watch.
Whenever the train pulled into a
station, the guards passed on the
correct time to the stationmasters,
who then synchronised the station’s
clocks.
The trains were so punctual that
people could set their clocks by
them!
