256 of the 3,173 conference hotels in germany declare
themselves “certified conference hotels”. They are evaluated
for their meeting suitability by planners themselves.
n Lead times. The Meeting & Event Barometer 2011 is rising: Last year Germany
booked 2.69 million events, attended by 323 million people, a robust plus of 9.4 percent.
Since eight of ten events drew less than 250 participants, two thirds of them stayed
in a conference hotel. Rising event figures on the one side, shrinking lead times on the
other. Meetings managers have to plan more events in fewer weeks and quickly select
the right hotel among the 3,173 conference hotels in Germany.
This is precisely where the Certified Conference Hotels seal comes in. “We bestow a true
customer certificate, since our auditors are meetings planners. This is certification by
customers and not by the Technical Control Board or the ISO,” says Till Runte, explaining

The 23 auditors employed by BTME, after all, work primarily as event mangers in
firms of varying sizes, whether information and communication technology, banks and insurance
companies, or cosmetic and fashion firms. Each industry has its particular re- ��
