Corporate Social Responsibility Plakatmotiv für die Initiative Vermisste Kinder . Poster campaign for the Initiative for Missing Children
Much of our social involvement focuses on children, young people and education. A highlight of 2007 was the opening of the Daycare Centre at our Cologne head office. We were very pleased to welcome Armin Laschet, NRW Minister for Family Affairs, and Fritz Schramma, Mayor of Cologne, as well as parents, children and employ ees, as our guests. In the course of the celebrations, featuring a fairytale market with facepainting, magicians and a storyteller, Minister Laschet, Mayor Schramma and CEO Udo Müller handed over the Kita Daycare Centre to Ströer’s children. In promoting the welfare of children, Ströer also sets great store by sporting activities. In cooperation with the BILD newspaper, the REWE Group, the German Sport University Cologne and other partners, Ströer is supporting the <strong>im</strong>provement of physical education in schools in the Cologne area with its project “Top at Sport”. Providing schools with more sports equipment, providing teachers with con tinued education programmes and financing an extra hour of physical education each week <strong>im</strong>proves the children’s motor skills, coordination and concentration. This has been confirmed in a study conducted by the Cologne Sports College. In late 2007, we initiated a cooperation project with the “Initiative for Missing Children“. As an expert in public communication, Ströer provided advertising space dedicated to finding missing children and young people, in order to increase public awareness of these young people who have disappeared. The first opportunity to a direct cooperation occurred in January 2008, when a 16yearold girl from Potsdam was brought back home safe and sound with the help of Ströer. This cooperation project will be expand ed in 2008 and our employees will also be involved in the initiative. The Ströer Group is also internationally involved in pro jects, especially for the benefit of children. In Poland, Ströer has been supporting the “Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy“, the “Christmas Charity Orchestra” for seven years. The foundation has initiated a nationwide campaign day, asking all Poles to organise concerts, parties and other events to collect donations. Since its foundation in 1993, the “Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy“ has become Poland’s largest and most <strong>im</strong>portant nonprofitmaking organisation. The donations are used to <strong>im</strong>prove the medical equipment in children’s hospitals and paediatric wards and to fund a variety of prevention and healthcare information campaigns for children and parents. Our Turkish joint venture, Ströer Akademi Reklam, supports the organ isation Lösemili Çocuklar Vakfı (LÖSEV). LÖSEV is a Turkish foundation for children with leukaemia. It provides the children with medical care and education. In addition, the foundation supports the children and their parents financially and socially. Apart from these goals, LÖSEV also founds and runs treatment, training and research institutions. 81
