Helios Dr. Horst Schmidt Clinics, the German Clinic for
Diagnostics and St. Josef Hospital.
Wiesbaden is also the city for international medical conferences.
The new RheinMain CongressCenter Wiesbaden
enhances the city‘s position as a venue for medical conferences,
says Lord Mayor Gerich, with the Convention for
Internal Medicine held by the German Society for Internal
Medicine returning to Wiesbaden after the building conversion.
With 8,000 visitors, this the largest conference of
its kind in German speaking countries.
The range of training possibilities also underlines the significance
of the healthcare sector in the business region.
RheinMain University of Applied Sciences offers a degree
course in health economics to train managers for the hospitals
of tomorrow. The Fresenius University of Applied
Sciences in Idstein offers numerous Bachelor‘s and Master‘s
degree courses in related areas such as osteopathy,
physiotherapy and neuro-rehabilitation.
More than 200 skilled crafts companies in the business
region deal primarily with the health of their customers,
including opticians, hearing aid audiologists, orthopaedic
shoemakers and dental technicians. The Rheingau, the
Taunus, Hochheim and Wiesbaden have more than 100
physiotherapists and their teams. About 560 doctors in
general practice take care of their patients in Wiesbaden,
with around 80 pharmacies providing the necessary medication.
There are also about 250 dentists and 170 psycho -
therapists.
According to Dr. Ersin Özsahin, Head of Statistics at Wiesbaden
Statistical Office, it is difficult to say exactly how
many companies work altogether in the healthcare sector,
because no data are available for the secondary healthcare
market. However, he expects the branch to see further
strong growth in the years ahead. This also complies with
the results of a study presented by the Federal Ministry for
Economic Affairs. Accordingly, there were already 6.2 million
people employed in Germany‘s healthcare industry in
2014, which is 1.3 million more than in 2000. The booming
secondary healthcare market alone generated about 76
billion Euro, with more than 320 billion Euro in the healthcare
branch as a whole.
The business region also provides first-rate services in
terms of care. Schlangenbad for example offers retirement
homes right next to the spa gardens, while several exclusive
apartment complexes for senior residents have been
constructed in Wiesbaden‘s prestigious borough of Sonnenberg.
Close proximity to the spas, such as the Thermalbad
im Aukamm or the Kaiser-Friedrich-Thermen am
Römertor offer ideal relaxation and recuperation for those
who like to frequent wellness facilities.
In addition to its German clientele, the region‘s healthcare
branch is increasingly also addressing prosperous foreign
visitors. For example, the International Patient Service
GmbH is based in Wiesbaden and takes care of the Arabian
visitors coming to the German Clinic for Diagnostics.
Being located at the heart of the internationally focused
Rhine-Main region is another advantage. The Frankfurt
Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region, is home to 14 universities
and many other private and public universities of applied
sciences as well as numerous research institutes. Together
with many other hospitals, doctors and companies,
they are represented by the Healthcare Initiative Rhine-
Main. Spa visitor Goethe was certainly most satisfied with
the healthcare branch. “The hot springs are so good for my
