City of Palaces and Gardens
If you haven’t seen Shiraz and the surrounding area, so the saying goes, then you haven’t
seen Iran. And it’s true. Wherever you go in the city, you find remnants of grand histories:
from the ancient city of Persepolis to the spacious parklands of the 19th century.

Natürlich ließ Karim Khan nahe seiner Residenz
auch einen Bazar und eine der größten
Moscheen der damaligen Zeit bauen. Beides
sind ein Muss auf der Touristen-Checkliste,
ebenso wie das Badehaus (Hamam) mit
seinen Wandmalereien, die Szenen aus der
klassischen persischen Literatur zeigen.
Die Dichter haben sich in Schiras stets wohl
gefühlt, zumindest trifft das auf die wichtigsten
zu: Saadi (13. Jahrhundert) und Hafis
(14. Jahrhundert). Hafis' Gedichte, die den
Wein und die Liebe besingen, dienten Goethe >

Visitors stare in wonderment at the rich
embellishments in its central hall, with their
bird and plant motifs, to this day. Karim Khan
also had a bazaar and one of the largest
mosques of its time built near his residence,
of course. Both are a must on the tourist
checklist, as is the bathhouse (hammam),
with its wall paintings depicting scenes
from classical Persian literature.
Poets – certainly the most important of them
– have always been welcomed to Shiraz.
These include Saadi (13th century) and Hafiz
(14th century). Hafiz’ poems, extolling wine
and love, inspired no lesser a man than
