new innovations that reduce the burden of<br />
human activities on the environment.<br />
Hitachi RBE lines<br />
One of the inventions keeping the environment<br />
into account is the Reduced Burden<br />
to the Environment (RBE) cutting-line. The<br />
unique chemical composition of the RBE<br />
line of a polymer-additive blend using<br />
photo and thermal induces of mineral origin<br />
makes it oxo-biodegradable. The composition<br />
is developed with an almost identical<br />
performance of the classic nylon trimmer<br />
line, where this conventional lines is a chemical<br />
compound of polymers, which is not<br />
compostable nor biodegradable.<br />
Oxo-biodegradable<br />
The decomposition takes place due to<br />
the effects of micro-organisms and is<br />
non-toxic for the environment. Oxobiodegradation<br />
is a process consisting of<br />
three steps:<br />
1) Photo-oxidation<br />
Under influence of UV-radiation from the<br />
sun, the line is degraded during the first<br />
36 months in smaller particles.<br />
2) Thermo-oxidation<br />
The second stage of thermo-oxidation<br />
takes place when the smaller particles<br />
are under influence of heat and warmth<br />
on the soil and lasts about 42 months.<br />
3) Bio-assimilation<br />
Micro-organisms in the soil take care of<br />
further composition of the material<br />
The total time of degradation takes place<br />
over a period of 5 to 20 years, depending<br />
on climatic conditions.<br />
In comparison to traditional nylon trimmer<br />
lines which rest in nature for hundreds of<br />
years, the RBE line is a step forward in<br />
sustainability.<br />
Packaging<br />
Not only the RBE lines are eco-friendly, but<br />
even the packaging has especially been<br />
developed with the environment in mind.<br />
The holders for both, the small “donutpacks”<br />
as well as the bigger spools are<br />
produced from a compressed mixture of<br />
wood pulp with a polypropylene material<br />
and therefore fully recyclable.<br />
