Hitachi: a full range of bits<br />
Hitachi bits are designed to provide both a<br />
maximum level of power transmission and<br />
a long product life. In order to warrant this,<br />
the bits must meet the following production<br />
standards:<br />
1. the best types of steels are selected<br />
2. the correct heat treatment is used for each<br />
type of bit<br />
3. a production process of the highest<br />
standards that guarantees the tolerances<br />
required<br />
The range includes many types of bit. Various<br />
sets are available, including economy packs<br />
for the most frequently used bits to keep the<br />
range as economical as possible.<br />
An extra hard surface<br />
Hitachi uses two different production processes<br />
depending on the type of bit and its use:<br />
1. forming the basic shape followed by forging<br />
to the final shape<br />
2. machining the entire bit<br />
After production the bit is hardened and<br />
tempered. The tempering ensures not only<br />
that the bit has an extra hard surface but,<br />
more importantly, that it has the correct<br />
toughness. If the bit is too hard it will splinter<br />
during heavy use, but if it is too soft it will<br />
distort.<br />
