In spite of the strange paging there are missing no pages. - This "work embraces a journey of nearly three thousand miles
in the interior of Central America, Chiapas, and Yucatan, including visits to eight ruined cities, with full illustrations from
drawings taken on the spot by Mr. [Frederick] Catherwood." (Preface) - John Lloyd Stephens (1805-1852), American
explorer, writer, and diplomat. He wrote several popular books about his travels and explorations (especially the
rediscovery of Maya civilization), some of them inspired Edgar Allan Poe. - Covers are distinctly knocked and rubbed; spine
of Vol.1 is damaged; endpapers with notes and with owner’s stamps by H. Tränker; pages are spotted and have few
marks; the map in Vol.1 is torn and has a fault of ca. 6x12cm.
