Das GJA4 (Gap junction alpha-4 protein) Gen gehört zur Connexin Genfamilie. Diese Transmembranproteine sind Teile von Zell-Zell<br />
Kanälen (sog. Gap Junctions), die benachbarte Zellen miteinander verbinden und den Austausch von Ionen und kleinen Molekülen<br />
ermöglichen. Gap Junctions kommen vor allem im Herzmuskelgewebe, in Epithelzellen und in der Retina vor.<br />
