The „Dankowski Szlak”
cycling and hiking route
The „Dankowski Szlak” route is a . km long connection
among Strzelce Krajeńskie and the villages of
Wielisławice and Danków. It leads through forests and
fields, avoiding public roads, which makes it a safe cycling
and hiking route.
The first unit ( . km long) leads through field areas and is agriculturally developed by
the village of Wielisławice. About 0 years old mighty limes grow along that route. Another
characteristic feature of that area are bogs and bushes spreaded among the fields- field
coverts. There, birds, game, insects and small amphibians find their shelter. Covering the
distance, a cycling lover may find majestically paddling cranes, buzzards making circles,
deers, bucks, hares and wild boars grazing and fretting foxes.
Going through Wielisławice, it is worth seeing the half-timbered church dating back
from the turn of the 8 th century rebuilt in the years 98 - 98 .
At this point the Barlinek Forest covering the area of ,6 thousand hectares and
a terrain called „Nature 000” start. The areas protect over 0 species of birds such as the
white eagle, the eagle owl, the black heron or the kingfisher. The woods of the forests are
in a good state being full of game, fowl, amphibiants and undergrowth: mushrooms, blueberry
and raspberry canes.
Here, the route turns right and leads north through Barlinek-Gorzów Landscape
Park. At the very beginning the tourist reaches one of the spatial forms of nature conservation
–ecological, arable land consisting of .7 ha. It is a place of particular preservation
of plants whose typical habitat are bogs, such as the sedge, the cotton grass, the bullrush,
the cats’-tail, as well as numerous species of birds, especially the ducks- the mallard, the
garganey, the teal and the myrtle.
As we get closer to the rest spot we go past mixed forests consisted of pine trees,
spruces, beeches, oaks, and ashes, alders and willows near the water.
The first rest spot is located at the 8 th km of the route next to fishponds. It is called
„Rybakówka”and fish like trouts and carps are raised. The ponds are often visited by birdsherons,
bald coots eagles and fish hawks- which find them perfect places to hunt for food.
Otters and minks also take advantage of the ponds.
Riding 00 meters farther we can admire an old Pomeranian beech wood with pine
trees and hemlock-spruces.
Another rest stop awaits tourists at the th km and it is called „Dolny Młyn”. A tourist
has the occasion to listen to rustling, dammed up water in a place situated upon the Polka
River where once a water-mill’s wheel spinned. Nearby the rest spot a picturesque lake
Buk is located.
After another km we reach Danków, a village located between two lakes- Kinołęka
and Dankowskie Wielgie. The historical attraction of Danków is its neogthical church and
the v. Brands’ manor farm buildings. Apart from these, it is possible to see well preserved
