The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra's
Future Fund raises vital funds in support of the
APO Connecting programmes - one of the
leading music education and community
outreach programmes in Australasia.

ABOUT APO CONNECTING
APO Connecting’s philosophy is that ‘Music opens
Minds’. Music can improve your wellbeing and help
promote a sense of community, belonging and
cultural fulfilment.
APO Connecting connects the Orchestra’s professional
players with families, schools, aspiring musicians and
communities in a flagship programme that is the envy
of many other orchestras and widely applauded by
educators and community leaders. We inspire young
musicians, connect music makers and music lovers of
the present and the future, and offer concerts,
workshops and tutorials.
From introductory music sessions for pre-schoolers to
professional development and mentoring for aspiring
musicians, composers and conductors, APO
Connecting presents orchestral music concerts and
experiences suited to a wide range of needs and
interests.
Through APO Connecting, the APO links to all
sections of our community:
Every dollar invested in APO Connecting programmes delivers $12.30 of
measurable good to NZ society, which equates to $2,669,571 of
measurable good every year.

Our education and outreach activities and concerts are
designed to excite and engage audiences across the
region and to share our passion for orchestral music.

there are opportunities to support children from less privileged backgrounds to

APO offers a variety of digital and live
interactive performances and learning
activities for children, families and young
people to interact with musicians, learn
about musical instruments and
experience live orchestral music in
various venues throughout Auckland,

SCHOOLS
The APO Partnership Schools (APOPS)
programme brings the orchestra into the
classroom through education activities
that has partnerships with schools across
Auckland.
APO works with teachers to shape each
membership to support their music
programme, delivering bespoke mentoring
and live performances from APO
musicians.
• Discovery concert for high school
students
• Kiwi Capers targeted at primary and
intermediate schools
• Link Up - a special partnership with
Carnegie Hall and students perform
with a live orchestra

The APO’s Inspire Partnership programme is a preprofessional
pathway for 16-25 year olds in collaboration
with Auckland University designed to nurture their talent
and hone their craft, shaping Auckland’s future
professional musicians.

APO Connecting supports the development
of a vibrant arts culture in Auckland
through dynamic, innovative and allencompassing

arts audiences, emerging artists and
sustaining the production of NZ music as
well as reflecting the region’s diverse
communities through musical expression.

Through APO Connecting, the APO engages with
more than 20,000 young people and adults each
year. The power of music is remarkable. It can be
intensely personal and also bring entire
communities together. The Auckland Philharmonia
Orchestra uses music to make people’s lives richer
and to inspire a passion for orchestral music
throughout our city.
Donations play an essential part in making our
work possible. They underpin the orchestra’s onstage
and community presence and ensure that
each performance is the absolute best it can be.
Your donation helps us to teach our children, work
with our communities, perform across our city and
connect on a personal level through workshops,
mentoring and neighbourhood concerts.

AUCKLAND PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA
The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) is New Zealand’s
designated metropolitan orchestra, serving Tāmaki Makaurau
Auckland, the country’s largest and most vibrant city, with concerts
and events throughout the year.
APO presents more than 60 performances annually with a
comprehensive season of symphonic work showcasing many of the
world’s finest classical musicians as well as exciting collaborations
with some of New Zealand’s most inventive contemporary artists. The
APO is renowned for its innovation, passion and versatility.
The APO is proud to support both the Royal New Zealand Ballet and
New Zealand Opera in their Auckland performances. It also works in
partnership with Auckland Arts Festival, the Michael Hill International
Violin Competition and Auckland Live among other organisations.
Through APO Connecting’s extensive programme of education and
community outreach initiatives, the APO engages with more than
20,000 young people and adults each year.
Each year the APO performs to more than 250,000 people live and
over the course of the pandemic, has reached more than 4.3 million
viewers globally through livestreams and other digital offerings.
