Centrecourt: Seit wann spielst Du <strong>Tennis</strong> und wie bist Du<br />
zum <strong>Tennis</strong> gekommen?<br />
Laura: Zum <strong>Tennis</strong> bin ich im Alter von 6 Jahren gekommen.<br />
Meine Mutter hat zu der Zeit bei der SG Himbach in der Mannschaft<br />
gespielt und ich war oft beim Training und den Medenspielen<br />
dabei. Irgendwann wollte ich auch <strong>Tennis</strong>spielen und<br />
der damalige Clubtrainer hat mir dann einen Schläger in die<br />
Hand gedrückt und sofort mein Talent erkannt :-) Es folgte regelmäßiges<br />
Einzel- und Gruppentraining und daraufhin recht<br />
zügig die Sichtungen zu Kreis-, Bezirks-, und Verbandstraining<br />
und dann schließlich die Aufnahme in den B-Kader des Deutschen<br />
<strong>Tennis</strong> Bundes.<br />
<strong>Tennis</strong> hat mich stets begeistert, da ganz alleine Du bestimmst<br />
was auf dem Platz passiert und Du Dich stets auf neue Situationen<br />
einstellen musst. Das Gefühl einen perfekten Schlag zu<br />
absolvieren und Deine Nervosität im Griff zu haben so wie Dein<br />
im Training Erlerntes anzuwenden ist einfach wunderbar, und<br />
wenn dann noch Zuschauer dabei sind, dann ist es perfekt.<br />
Centrecourt: Was waren Deine größten Erfolge?<br />
Laura:Mit 9 Jahren feierte ich meinen ersten Turniersieg<br />
beim Jugendturnier in Erbach. Im Laufe meiner Karriere<br />
Centrecourt: When and why did you start playing<br />
tennis?<br />
Laura: I started playing tennis at the age of 6.<br />
My mom played team tennis for SG Himbach at<br />
that time and I watched her playing tennis during<br />
matches and practice. I got very interested in<br />
starting playing tennis myself. On the day I told<br />
my mom that I want to start playing tennis, her<br />
coach hit some balls with me and immediately<br />
discovered my talent. I started with regular single<br />
and team practice and soon got a member of<br />
the Kreis-, Bezirks- and Hessentraining and later<br />
on became a member of the DTB B-Kader.<br />
<strong>Tennis</strong> always thrilled me, since it is just you<br />
who is responsible for what is happening on<br />
the court and always has to adapt to new situations.<br />
The feeling of hitting the perfect shot,<br />
being in control of your feelings and just playing<br />
like it is practice during a match is just amazing,<br />
and when there are also spectators then it is just<br />
perfect.<br />
Centrecourt: What are some of your biggest<br />
achievements?<br />
Laura: At the age of 9 I won my very first tournament<br />
in Erbach. During my career I won the<br />
German Championships in doubles several<br />
times as well as the Hessen-, and Bezirksmeisterschaften<br />
in Singles.<br />
In 2000 I placed second with the German team<br />
in the under-16s in Paris for the European team<br />
championships, and I was member of the Ger-<br />
folgten mehrfache Deutsche Meisterschaftstitel im Doppel,<br />
sowie Hessen-, und Bezirksmeisterschaftstitel im<br />
Einzel. Im Jahr 2000 wurde ich mit der DTB-Mannschaft<br />
Vize-Europameisterin U16, und war Mitglied der Deutschen<br />
Nationalmannschaft, mit der wir im Jahr 2001 beim<br />
Kulturfestival in Indien gegen die dortige Nationalmannschaft<br />
spielten.<br />
Sehr gerne denke ich auch an den 3. Platz bei den Cilly-<br />
Aussem Spielen mit der Hessischen Mannschaft zurück,<br />
wo ich gegen die damalige Nr. 1 der Deutschen Rangliste<br />
gewann sowie an den Sieg beim DTB-Jüngsten Cup in<br />
Essen im Alter von 12 Jahren. Meinen letzten Turniersieg<br />
feierte ich während meiner College-Zeit in den USA, was<br />
ich als gelungenen Abschluss empfand.<br />
Generell gehörte ich stets zu den Top 5 der Jugend in Deutschland,<br />
stand bei den Deutschen Damen an Position 80 und in<br />
der Jugendweltrangliste stand ich unter den Top 100.<br />
Centrecourt: Wann und wie bist Du zum <strong>Palmengarten</strong> gekommen?<br />
Laura: 2001 kam ich zum <strong>Palmengarten</strong>, da ich gerne in<br />
der 2. Bundesliga spielen wollte. Ich war von der Anlage<br />
man national team. In 2001 we went to India<br />
with this team to play against their national team<br />
at the Indian culture festival.<br />
Also I want to mention the third place at the Cilly<br />
Aussem Spiele with the regional team where I<br />
beat the then number 1 of Germany as well as<br />
the victory at the DTB-Junior Cup in Essen at<br />
the age of 12. My last tournament I won during<br />
my time at the University of South Carolina.<br />
That was a successful finish.<br />
During my career I was always under the Top 5<br />
Juniors in Germany, held a German women‘s<br />
ranking of 80th in 2001 and held an ITF junior<br />
ranking of 100 in 2000.<br />
Centrecourt: When and why did you join the<br />
<strong>FTC</strong> <strong>Palmengarten</strong>?<br />
Laura: I started playing tennis for the club in<br />
2001 since I wanted to play 2.Bundesliga.<br />
I was impressed by the facility and team and<br />
very excited about playing for such a prestigious<br />
club. Some of my most remarkable memories<br />
are the double matches with Eva Pfaff and<br />
my very first single match. I was the youngster<br />
in the team, was a little nervous and won 7:5,<br />
6:3. That was the perfect start.<br />
Centrecourt: How is your experience of the<br />
<strong>FTC</strong> <strong>Palmengarten</strong>?<br />
Laura: I am very tied to the club through my<br />
3 years playing 2. Bundesliga before I started<br />
studying and now being a team member again.
