Chirbet al-Watan – Dorfkinder auf dem Fußballplatz
Samstagnachmittag. Die Kinder sind mitten in einem stürmischen Fußballspiel.
Als ich ankomme, beenden die Buben das Spiel und einer von ihnen
stellt sie alle für ein Foto auf. Danach geht das Spiel wieder weiter. Obwohl
die Fußballplätze häufig benutzt werden, lassen sich auch in den übrigen
nicht anerkannten Dörfern keine annehmbaren Fußballfelder finden. Es ist
schlicht nicht möglich, Sportanlagen ohne Anerkennung, Budgets und Gemeindeverwaltung
einzurichten und zu erhalten. Etwa 1.000 Kinder und Jugendliche
wohnen in Chirbet al-Watan. Sie und die Kinder der anderen nicht
anerkannten Dörfer kommen nicht in den Genuss von Freizeitzirkeln, Gemeindeaktivitäten,
Jugendgruppen, Sportanlagen oder kulturellen Aktivitäten.
Wenn die Schule aus ist, können sie sich selbst mit Hausaufgaben beschäftigen,
mit Fernsehen, oder sie hüten das Vieh. Viele der Eltern leben von
Geldern der nationalen Sozialversicherung; laut Gesetz ist es ihnen verboten,
ein Fahrzeug zu besitzen oder mit einem zu fahren. Es spielt keine Rolle. Sie
könnten es sich ohnehin nicht leisten, die Kinder zu Freizeitgruppen in Be’er-
Scheva, Arad, Omer oder Meitar (jüdische Orte) zu bringen.

Saturday afternoon. The children are in the middle of a wild football game.
When I arrive, the boys stop the game and one of them organizes them all
for the photoshoot. Afterwards, the game resumes. Even though the football
fields are used frequently, reasonable football grounds are also not to be found
in any of the other unrecognized villages. It is simply not possible to set up
and maintain sports facilities without recognition, budgets and a local council.
About one thousand children and teenagers live in Khirbet Al-Watan. They,
and the children of the other unrecognized villages, cannot enjoy the benefits
of extra-curricular activities, youth movements, sports facilities or cultural
and life-enrichment activities. After school, they can busy themselves with
homework, watching television, or shepherding. Many of their parents live off
allowances from the ‘National Insurance Institute’; by law, they are prohibited
from having a car or driving one. No matter. In any case, they could not
afford to take their children to extra-curricular activities in Beer Sheva, Arad,
Omer or Meitar (Jewish localities).
