2 the guilds’ houses situated in the Small Square, being first mentioned in documents in 1370. In the 18 th century the house was used by the community as a theatre hall. The coat of arms of Sibiu and the year on the front piece of the building are a proof of the moment in which the building enters in the administration of the Magistrate. Starting with 2004, the building is part of the ASTRA National Museum Complex. If we go inside the HOUSE AT NO. 22 3 we will discover the so-called “Fresco Hall”, where a series of priceless mural paintings can be admired, impeccably restored and dating from 1631. THE TOWER OF THE GOLDSMITHS’ LADDER 4 , (no. 24, Small Square) is one of the gate-towers of the Small Square. It makes the connection between the Lower Town, a medieval road and the medieval fortification. The name comes from its vicinity with the House of the Goldsmiths’ Guild, a guild which apparently took care of this building’s maintenance. The House of the Goldsmiths’ Guild (no. 25, Small Square) is one of the buildings raised on the second fortification belt. The building has all the characteristics of a medieval house and the coat of arms of the guild may be observed in the main room of the building, situated on the first floor.
