In 2012, we had help from 189 volunteers and ushers! That equals just over
10,000 hours of time dedicated to helping the Trust!
On behalf of our entire organization, thank you for your help with our events
and performances. Thank you for your friendships, your encouragement and
your talents. In no way, shape or form could we accomplish so much without
you!
Thank you for working behind the scenes to stuff envelopes, cut out fabric and
sell raffle tickets. Thank you for seating banquet and theatre patrons with a
smile. Thank you for planning an event for months to have it all be over in a
matter of hours.
Thank you for being visionaries of what can be and how we can make things
happen, make things better for our community.

Hollywood Party, our signature fundraising event, will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013. We will celebrate the glorious history and grandeur
of The Palace Theatre, from vaudeville, through silver screen and today’s live performances.
Consider joining us on stage for the Pre-Party as we toast our theatre with champagne, enjoy tasty hors d’oeuvres and piano accompaniment to
songs from days gone by…all with the theatre as our backdrop.
The entire building will be transformed, reminiscent of the early days of The Palace. Performances will be held throughout as we dedicate this night
to our leading lady, “The Palace Theatre”. Local restaurateurs will be on hand, serving their finest hors d’oeuvres. Let’s not forget the desserts
available in the Strand Sweet Shop recreated in the Upper Megan Suite.

Happy New Year!
I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to all of our members, volunteers,
vendors and Trust friends who, through their collective efforts, ensured the
continued success of the Trust. Whether through your membership, annual and
year-end donations, much needed volunteer hours, or attendance at fundraisers
and special events, your support allows Westmoreland Cultural Trust the
opportunity to continue to do valuable work in our community.
As we do every year at this time, we are in the process of visiting our long-term
strategic plan and reviewing our current programs to ensure that we are on the
right path for our growing company. Please feel free to call me with any insights

COMMUNITY SUPPORTS DAY OF GIVING IN WESTMORELAND COUNTY
Thanks to all new and renewing members for your contributions to the Trust on the Day of
Giving in Westmoreland County. The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County,
its donors, and the community responded generously to the growing needs of nonprofit
organizations during WestmorelandGives Day of Giving. In Westmoreland County,
public contributions were $597,212 which received matching funds of $85,000. This is a
resounding 37% increase over 2011! All participants are celebrating these outstanding
results and show of support!

WCT’s 8th Annual Holiday Fashion Fantasy All New Runway Show
Greensburg Garden & Civic Center was all
decked out for the holidays in preparation for the
fabulous Holiday Fashion Fantasy on November
1st. Lovely ladies, beautiful children and
distinquished gentlemen graced the new runway.
The runway was a welcome addition to the venue.
Flanked with LED lights, it was a wonderful
platform for the models to show off their festive
attire. The stage was ablaze with dozens and
dozens of bright crimson poinsettias set amidst
marble columns against a black curtain. The
dramatically set stage was a perfect backdrop for
each of the 40 models.
The party-goers were greeted by champagne
steward Keith Biskup and treated to a glass of the
bubbly. Rizzo’s provided the sumptuous banquet

of delicious appetizers along with chicken
marsala, giant raviolis, polenta and much more.
Terry Reese, Westmoreland Cultural Trust’s
Board Chairman and guest host for the evening,
introduced himself and thanked all for coming to
support the Trust. He commended the volunteers
for their efforts in organizing this popular event
as he introduced event co-chairwomen Jane
Church and Susan Dickson-Houser. Our emcee
for the evening, Jennifer Miele, Vice President of
Marketing and Communications at Excela Health,
began by introducing the presenting store and
a brief description of the collection the models
were showing. Lapels - A Fine Men’s Clothier,
Sears, Golf for Her, Crossroads Boutique,
Katwalk, New Attitude Dress Salon and Aw Else
Boutique were the retailers for this year’s show.
Although the adults were outstanding, the kids
were the ones to stand out! Who can’t resist a
scrubbed up, dressed up child?!
After the show, guests were invited back to the
Laurel & Iris Rooms for dessert, coffee and drinks
while Terry pulled the winning Lucky ticket raffle
numbers. Show retailers, along with Beeghly
and Company Jewelers, displayed a sampling of
their merchandise and guests got a jump start on
their holiday shopping!
Bartending team Karl and Carmen Eisaman,
Keith Biskup and Steve DeRosa deserve a round
of thanks for their service during the evening.

Our seventh annual International Christmas for
Children was a wonderful way to usher in the
Christmas season. Parents, grandparents, and
great-grandparents brought children from across
Westmoreland County to enjoy songs, storytelling
and crafts related to the holiday traditions of
Australia, Brazil, Poland and Russia.
What do you do when you’re the only white
roo? “Snowy’s Christmas” teaches children that
sometimes our differences are what make us
special and stronger. Children created a wreath
with their own kangaroo to celebrate the wonders
of Australia. Some of the children were surprised
to learn that they have experienced a Brazilian giftgiving
tradition known as “secret friend” or “secret
Santa”. Children listened to a story of “Federico
and the Magi’s Gift” by Beatriz Vidal and created a
colorful flower from tissue paper reminiscent of the
many vibrant flowers of Brazil. Children listened to
the story of “Wigilia”, a tale about a Polish-American
family on Christmas Eve and how tables are set to
include an extra place for any unexpected guests.
Children scrunched their noses at the thought of
beet soup as part of the twelve items served for
Christmas dinner in Poland; but, they did enjoy
making angel ornaments to decorate their own
Christmas trees. In Russia, children heard of an
old woman who was visited by the three kings.
Baboushka had work to do and therefore did not go
with the kings. Changing her mind, she decided to
follow their footsteps but they were already covered
by the new-fallen snow. She is now thought to
wander and deliver gifts to good children on the
Epiphany. As always, there was a stop at the North
Pole to remind Santa of what good girls and boys
we have been and ask for that special gift.
We would like to thank all of our “tour guides”,
storytellers, craft helpers and, of course, Santa for
making this a special occasion for these kids.
