Hollywood Party at The Palace
Westmoreland Cultural Trust’s 5th Annual Hollywood Party at The
Palace found us Groovin’ to the ‘60s! Paparazzi hounded the
pre-party participants entering exclusively via Pennsylvania Avenue for
backstage guests only. Our guests were in the spot light as it directed them
down the aisle and to their photo shoot. They enjoyed champagne, passed
hors d’oeuvres and entertainment by Greensburg’s incredible version of
the Jersey Boys, accompanied on piano by Eric Barchiesi.
Our main gala participants arrived to the red carpet treatment and were
entertained by The Sensations until the Megan Suite doors opened to
the sights and sounds of the ‘60s. Guests stepped back to the days of
go-go boots and the Peppermint Lounge. Nightclub goers feasted on
hors d’oeuvres from Libras, Chef Dato, Duane’s Café on Grove, The
Headkeeper, One Eleven and Peking Garden. Entertainers from Harry
Belafonte, The Beatles and The Supremes to the Woodstock music of Jimi
Hendrix and Janis Joplin could be heard throughout the evening.
The crowd enjoyed specialty desserts from Colaizzi Brothers, DeNunzio’s
Italian Restaurants, Enrico Biscotti Company, Stephanie Hagan, kelly
confections, Ligonier’s Landmark Bakery, One Eleven, One Tuff Cookie
and Pastor’s Special Order Bakery at the beach party in the Upper Megan
Suite and mingled with the likes of Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello and
the whole surfing gang. Musical segments from Bye Bye Birdie, Gypsy,
The Music Man and West Side Story were heard from the grand staircase serving as MGM’s back lot. A giant screen featuring
film clips of James Bond movies, a poker table in the corner and two bars where martinis were “shaken not stirred” added
to the Casino Royale ambiance in the mezzanine. Caffe Barista, Inc, Mark Henry: Tree Tops Restaurant and Greensburg
Country Club provided tasty hors d’oeuvres of the 1960s including fondue favorites. “Aquarius” performed by the cast of
Hair resounded for the grand finale. Guests let their hair down as the sun shined in and danced with the cast throughout the
Megan Suite. The outstanding entertainment for the entire evening was provided by Stage Right!

Craig Ferguson entered the world of late night comedy following a diverse and eclectic career that encompasses film, television and the stage.
Since taking the helm of the Late, Late Show on January 3, 2005, the show has set all-time viewer records in three consecutive sweeps. After
several stints on the English comedy circuit, Ferguson brought his act to America in 1995 to star with Betty White and Marie Osmond in
the short-lived ABC comedy Maybe This Time. After the show ended, ABC decided to add the talented Scotsman to The Drew Carey Show,
playing Drew Carey’s boss, Nigel Wick, from 1996-2003. Craig has written the feature films The Big Tease and Saving Grace. In 2003, he
made his directorial debut with I’ll Be There, which he also wrote and starred in. I’ll Be There went on to receive the Audience Award for
Best Film at the Aspen, Dallas, and Valencia film festivals. Ferguson’s other film credits include, Niagra Motel, Lenny the Wonder Dog,
Prendimi l’anima, Life Without Dick, Chain of Fools, and Born Romantic. In April 2006, Craig Ferguson debuted his first novel entitled
Between The Bridge and The River, which made it onto the best seller list. Since coming into his own on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson
and winning his first Emmy nomination in 2006, Craig has become the topic of conversation within the media, with a growing trend of success. In September 2009 Harper
Collins publishlished a memoir by Craig Ferguson, In America On Purpose - a book about why and how late night funnyman Craig Ferguson became an American.

for their favorite entertainer.
With eclectic performance that reached out and enchanted millions of viewers, including judges Criss Angle and Uri Geller; Mike Super proved
he was the best of the best, and was awarded the prestigious title of The Phenomenon. Mike is magic’s freshest celebrity. His production is currently
setting box office records with sold out shows across the country. Mike Super’s show is more than just illusions. The moment he appears
on stage, the audience is captivated. Mike takes the venue and transforms it into a gateway for your imagination, creating a totally interactive
magic experience. The audience won’t just watch the magic, they’ll take part in it!

Westmoreland Cultural Trust celebrated its volunteers on Thursday, March 25, 2010, at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center. Vonnie Goldsborough took the
opportunity to thank the volunteers for their generous contributions of time and talent leading to the most successful year of fundraisers, special events and Palace
performances. There has been a major increase in Palace shows and patrons along with a substantial increase in the number of special events per year. This has been
accomplished without an increase in the number of ushers at The Palace or WCT personnel, emphasizing further the need and impact of having the support of our volunteers.
Committee chairs for the 2009 major events were presented with gifts of appreciation: Peg Colosimo and Dawna Saunders, Hollywood Party at The Palace; Phyllis Kluska and
Jan Taylor, Bocce nel Giardino; Jane Church and Mary Lou Hugus, Holiday Fashion Fantasy. At a later date, Libby Jones and Sean Cassidy will be presented with plaques as
winners of the 2009 Thank Goodness It’s Summer bartender challenge for the second year in a row!
Trust President Mike Langer also thanked the volunteers for their contributions. He noted that The Palace is home to the Westmoreland Symphony, River City Brass Band,
Stage Right plus individual shows and that last year, more than 58,000 patrons attended. He also stressed the economic impact to the community, based on this attendance,
providing several million dollars to the local economy each year!
Westmoreland Cultural Trust wishes to thank TurtleTree Fine Foods for a delicious dinner and our celebration sponsors, First Commonwealth Bank and Walworth Medical
Center. This event is a small way of thanking our volunteers who have generously contributed their time and talents toward making our fundraisers fun and successful! They

Thank you to the “groovin” HPP committee for taking us back to the ‘60s and
creating such fun! From colorful, elegant décor in Megan’s Intermission Suite to
fun for all in the upper suite, from delicious foods and tantalizing desserts, from
“Where the Boys Are” to “Aquarius,” your endless support and creativity treated
our guests to yet another fabulously entertaining Trust event.

performance? The Laurel Highlands
tagline is currently “A Place of Wonder.”
Theatre Manager Linda Kubas created
this question on postcards and signage to
stimulate interest in The Palace Theatre.
In February, Linda participated in the
Heartland Travel Showcase in Columbus, Ohio. This tourism conference gives
tour operators and travel agents from the Mid-Atlantic States and the Midwest a
chance to meet with representatives of attractions and tourist promotion agencies.
During the 4-day conference, Linda met with 41 operators from 13 states that
were interested in visiting The Palace Theatre. Each was given a CD with a
PowerPoint presentation about The Theatre including upcoming performers, a
schedule of events and Palace Fun Facts. Two operators have already requested
additional information and have planned site inspections in the near future.
WCT FEATURED ON COMCAST!
Comcast provides a free forum for non-profit and community organizations to
present events and issues important to the Laurel Highlands Region. Seen at
:25 and :55 past the hour on Comcast Cable’s CNN Headline News, the month
of April will include a segment on Westmoreland Cultural Trust and The Palace
Theatre with Director of Marketing & Programming Teresa Baughman. More
than 135,000 households in the seven county Laurel Highlands region will see the
interview, to be aired approximately 50 times throughout the month.
