In America, his seventh album, is another collection from a man whose career is marked by his talent for delving into the human condition and producing songs
of uncommon insight and compassion. He has a way of investing life’s everyday moments with a poetry all his own. “I take whatever happens to me between
records and spend time thinking and feeling it through, and then I draw on the lessons I’ve learned and try to find the music in it,” McCain says. It’s the same
method he’s used since he first picked up a guitar and decided he wanted to be a wandering troubadour.
The Golden Dragon Acrobats represent the best of a time honored
tradition that began more than 25 centuries ago. They are
recognized throughout the United States and abroad as the premier
Chinese acrobatic touring company of today. The reputation of
the company is solidly rooted in a commitment to the highest
of production values and an attention to artistic details that is
unparalleled in the art form. World renowned impresario Danny
Chang and choreographer Angela Chang combine award-winning
acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and
contemporary music, and theatrical techniques to present a show of breathtaking skill and
a career spanning nearly three decades, he has
and Platinum-certified home videos and 3 Grammy Awards (with 11 nominations). Al’s
12th studio album, Straight Outta Lynwood, debuted at #10 on the Billboard album charts,
giving Al his very first Top 10 album. White & Nerdy erupted on the Billboard singles charts
and rocketed to #9 within a week, making it Al’s first Top 10 single. “Weird Al” and his band
feature humorous music that makes light of popular culture and parodies songs by hot artists
10th Annual Achievement in the Arts Awards Banquet
Greensburg Area Cultural Council, a program of Westmoreland Cultural Trust, held its 10th Annual Achievement in the
Arts Awards Banquet at Seton Hill University’s Lowe Dining Hall on May 18, 2008. Students from eighteen high schools
in Westmoreland County were honored for work in the visual arts, theatre, and music. Westmoreland County Judges
Richard E. McCormick, Jr. and Debra Pezze presented each student with an award plaque and congratulated them on their
outstanding achievements.
The 2008 Art Educator of the Year, Dianne Pyda, was also awarded by Master
of Ceremonies, Marvin Huls. Pyda, a 3-D Art teacher from Mt. Pleasant Area
High School, accepted her award with an encouraging speech. She remembered
being awestruck as a little girl watching her mother use pencil or watercolors to
capture scenes on canvas. “Art is my passion, and to teach it is a privilege,” Pyda
said. “Therefore, I feel like I’m one of the luckiest people in this room.”
Complementing the Awards Banquet was the Seton Hill University Faculty Jazz
Combo. A delectable dinner buffet was prepared by the dining hall staff. All in
attendance agree, this year’s event was a huge success!
