Divers
(1) No divershall dive in a divingprojectunless he -
(a) has,subject to paragraph (2), an approved qualification which is valid
for any activity he may reasonably expect to carry out while takingpart
inthedivingproject;
(1) TheExecutive may approve in writing such qualification as it considers
suitable forthepurpose ofensuringthe adequatecompetenceofdiversforthepurposes

ACOP Qualifications
134 Alldivers atwork must hold anapproveddiving qualification
suitable fortheworkthat theyintend to do. A list ofcurrentapproved
12(1)(a), 14(1) qualifications can be obtainedfromHSE.

ACOP Competence
(1) Nopersonshall dive in a divingproject -
(a) unless he is competent tocarry out safely andwithoutrisk tohealth any
activity he may reasonably expect to carry out while takingpart in the
divingproject;
135 Divers must be competentto do the work allocated to themwithin
the diving projectplan. A basic level ofdiving competence maybe
assumedfroma diver who has an approved divingqualification.
They should have a good understandingofdiving physics and
physiology and decompression. Theyshouldbe able to recognise the
signs and symptomsofdiving-relatedillnesses in themselves and
others and initiateappropriatetreatment. Theyshouldbe able to carry
out a diver rescue,includingthe performanceofresuscitation
techniques.They should be able to initiate appropriateactionsin the
13(1)(a) eventofan emergency.

(2) Everypersonengaged in a divingproject shall comply with -
(a) anydirectionsgiven to him by a supervisor under regulation 11;
136 Allpeople in the dive team have aresponsibilityto co-operate
with the supervisorand to followany reasonable directionsand
instructionsthat the supervisorgives.
