Hilary Mason is the Chief Scientist at bit.ly, where she<br />
f<strong>in</strong>ds sense <strong>in</strong> vast data sets. Her work <strong>in</strong>volves both<br />
pure research and development <strong>of</strong><br />
product-focused features. She’s also<br />
a co-founder <strong>of</strong> HackNY, a non-pr<strong>of</strong>it<br />
organization that connects talented<br />
student hackers with startups. Hilary<br />
recently started the data science blog<br />
Dataists and is a member <strong>of</strong> hacker<br />
collective NYC Resistor. Hilary studied computer<br />
science at Gr<strong>in</strong>nell College and Brown University. She<br />
was Chief Scientist at Path101 and Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />
at Johnson & Wales University. She speaks widely at<br />
academic and <strong>in</strong>dustry conferences, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g keynotes<br />

Jane Margolis, UCLA Senior Researcher at the<br />
Graduate School <strong>of</strong> Education and Information Studies,<br />
is the author <strong>of</strong> two award-w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g<br />
books: Unlock<strong>in</strong>g the Clubhouse:<br />
<strong>Women</strong> <strong>in</strong> Comput<strong>in</strong>g, which<br />
exam<strong>in</strong>es the gender gap <strong>in</strong> computer<br />
science at the college level, and Stuck<br />
<strong>in</strong> the Shallow End: Education, Race,<br />
and Comput<strong>in</strong>g, which exam<strong>in</strong>es the<br />
disparities <strong>in</strong> computer science learn<strong>in</strong>g opportunities<br />
<strong>in</strong> Los Angeles public high schools. Her research<br />
consistently leads to <strong>in</strong>novative organizational reform.<br />
Margolis is the PI <strong>of</strong> two National Science Foundation<br />
supported grants that have goals <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g<br />
access and transform<strong>in</strong>g computer science learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />
opportunities for traditionally underrepresented<br />
students. She is one <strong>of</strong> the found<strong>in</strong>g members <strong>of</strong> the<br />
National Center for <strong>Women</strong> <strong>in</strong> Technology.<br />
