<strong>Waller</strong> <strong>ISD</strong> announced the <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>2012</strong> <strong>Teachers</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Rookies</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year at the May 9 <strong>Waller</strong><br />

<strong>ISD</strong> School Board Meeting. Pictured L-R is District Secondary Teacher <strong>of</strong> the Year from<br />

<strong>Waller</strong> <strong>ISD</strong> Campus <strong>Teachers</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Rookies</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year were presented by Kelly Baehren, <strong>Waller</strong><br />

<strong>ISD</strong> Curriculum Director, to the <strong>Waller</strong> <strong>ISD</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees during the Regular Called Board<br />

Meeting on May 9. Selected by peers at their respective campuses, the Teacher <strong>of</strong> the Year<br />

honorees were Amy Frey (<strong>Waller</strong> High School), Daralyn Bryzialkiewicz (<strong>Waller</strong> Junior High),<br />

Alisha David (Schultz Junior High), Vicki Prause (Roberts Road Elementary), Todd Nesloney<br />

(Fields Store Elementary), Christina Godfrey (Holleman Elementary), Kasey White (Jones<br />

Elementary) <strong>and</strong> Kristi Nardiello (Turlington Elementary). <strong>Waller</strong> <strong>ISD</strong> <strong>Rookies</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year are first<br />

or second year teachers that were selected by their peers. <strong>Waller</strong> <strong>ISD</strong> <strong>Rookies</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year are<br />

Natalie Hibner (<strong>Waller</strong> High School), Christopher Kesler (<strong>Waller</strong> Junior High), Catalina<br />

Colmenares (Schultz Junior High), Jose Compan (Roberts Road Elementary), Leslie Sims (Fields<br />

Store Elementary), Jessica Bronikowski (Holleman Elementary), Katarina Ipina (Jones<br />

Elementary), <strong>and</strong> Melissa Mazurkiewicz (Turlington Elementary).<br />

When these extraordinary teachers were selected as Teacher <strong>of</strong> the Year <strong>and</strong> Rookie <strong>of</strong> the Year<br />

at their respective <strong>Waller</strong> <strong>ISD</strong> campus, those from the elementary <strong>and</strong> secondary level were then<br />

eligible to be selected as the District Elementary <strong>and</strong> Secondary <strong>Teachers</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Rookies</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year.<br />

After a detailed application <strong>and</strong> interview process, the District Elementary <strong>and</strong> Secondary<br />

<strong>Teachers</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year <strong>and</strong> <strong>Rookies</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year were selected. <strong>Waller</strong> <strong>ISD</strong> Secondary Teacher <strong>of</strong><br />

the Year is from <strong>Waller</strong> High School, Amy Frey, <strong>and</strong> District Elementary Teacher <strong>of</strong> the Year from<br />

H.T. Jones Elementary is Kasey White. <strong>Waller</strong> <strong>ISD</strong> Elementary Rookie <strong>of</strong> the Year is Leslie Sims<br />

from Fields Store Elementary <strong>and</strong> Secondary Rookie <strong>of</strong> the Year is Catalina Colmenares from<br />

Schultz Junior High School. Amy Frey <strong>and</strong> Kasey White will proceed as district c<strong>and</strong>idates<br />

representing <strong>Waller</strong> <strong>ISD</strong> in the Region IV Education Service Center Teacher <strong>of</strong> the Year<br />

competition. The Region IV Education Teacher <strong>of</strong> the Year winners will be announced in August.<br />

Last August, Lauren Crites, Schultz Junior High Teacher, was selected as one <strong>of</strong> the top five<br />

finalists at the 2010-<strong>2011</strong> Region IV Secondary Teacher <strong>of</strong> the Year.<br />

A special thanks goes to the <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>2012</strong> <strong>Teachers</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year selection committee: Lauren Crites,<br />

2010-<strong>2011</strong> WALLER <strong>ISD</strong> Secondary Teacher <strong>of</strong> the Year <strong>and</strong> Schultz Junior High Instructional<br />

Facilitator; Kathy Eckermann, 2010-<strong>2011</strong> WALLER <strong>ISD</strong> Elementary Teacher <strong>of</strong> the Year <strong>and</strong><br />

teacher at Fields Store Elementary; Elizabeth Nickles, parent; Malcolm Guerra, Program<br />

Manager at Boys <strong>and</strong> Girls Country; <strong>and</strong> Sharon Wilder, WALLER <strong>ISD</strong> Science Coordinator.<br />

<strong>Rookies</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year selection committee: Brad Compton, 2010-<strong>2011</strong> WALLER <strong>ISD</strong> Secondary<br />

Rookie <strong>of</strong> the Year <strong>and</strong> science teacher at <strong>Waller</strong> Junior High, Paula Mueller, 2010-<strong>2011</strong><br />

WALLER <strong>ISD</strong> Elementary Rookie <strong>of</strong> the Year <strong>and</strong> music teacher at Turlington Elementary School;<br />

Tommie Lindsey, parent <strong>and</strong> Pastor at Bailey Chapel; Edd Wunderick, Pastor – St. John’s<br />

Lutheran Church; Kathryn Reed, Retired WALLER <strong>ISD</strong> teacher <strong>and</strong> PVAMU part time employee;<br />

<strong>and</strong> Mike Brooks, WALLER <strong>ISD</strong> Human Resources Director.<br />

All campus <strong>Rookies</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Teachers</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year received a <strong>Waller</strong> <strong>ISD</strong> shirt <strong>and</strong> sculpted star<br />

acrylic award. In addition, each campus Teacher <strong>and</strong> Rookie <strong>of</strong> the Year received a gift card<br />

from Brazos Valley Credit Union. Herff Jones Graduation Center donated a custom made ring for<br />

the District Elementary <strong>and</strong> Secondary <strong>Teachers</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year.<br />

Congratulations to all the campus <strong>and</strong> district <strong>Teachers</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Rookies</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Year for making a<br />
